Comments Thread For: Fighting Words: Should Floyd Face the Best of 154, 160?

The Trout/Mayweather example, fine. You want to treat Trout the same way as Mayweather, then fine. Don't talk him up to be any different then. You expect more from Mayweather has hes supposed to be the greatest of our generation, and is it really a big ask to make a fight in a division he's fought at twice, for world titles? You demand Mayweather be treat as an ATG yet argue how he's treat differently, it really astounds me. Like you said "you people are sooo funny" (gotta put in a highhorse comment in somewhere otherwise its not a certified NSB post)
My example was RJJ. He moved up a lot of divisions too, so I thought the example was pretty relevant. He dared to move up to HW and made history. I want to try put Mayweather in the same circle as RJJ, like people argue I should, but just like Pacquiao, it's just not the same. I argued he should dare to be great. Daring to become the lineal 154 champion? Why is that so far-fetched to you people? RJJ started off at 154, but we don't hear very many people use the same logic for him at 175. 160 is too big for a small guy like Floyd, but he'd sure get a hell of lot more respect for trying, like RJJ did. Instead, we have todays era of boxing of careful matchmaking, weight advantages etc etc.. He excelled where he expect him to, not dared to excel where we don't expect, and that's why i'll always respect RJJ more.
How many as Froch been in? 1. He made his entire career at 168. And he's a small supermiddleweight, so I mean, I hope you don't want to contradict your logic here. This example was pretty bad, but I understand your point so I won't nitpick. Froch fought anyone in his division back-to-back. I'm more than happy to call him great for doing that. But Mayweather hasn't really campaigned a division like that. He moves up weights instead, too different a career to compare. The 160+ divisions currently are also far less dynamic than 135-147. Not sure why, but it's just there.
If Mayweather did what Froch is doing at 168, he'd probably have the biggest fanbase in boxing history. No ducking accusations (as logically, he'd have fought everyone at 147) and we wouldn't have to worry about him at 154 as it isn't his division. But because of his weight moving career, people come out of the woodwork to try argue he is a career 147er, just as Froch as a career 168er. It's illogical. I could go on all day, but i'll give it a rest

It's ok for guys to come up in weight to fight Floyd but it's not ok for Floyd to go up in weight and defend his 154lb belt once. Martinez was willing to drain the hell out of himself to make 150 to fight floyd for two years offered 80% of all profits to Floyd. People had a problem with it because martinez was a 154lb king ages ago and now fights at 160. Now a natural 154lb fighter is willing to do the same and now he's too big even when the guy is willing to set a rehydration limit and even come down below 154lb to make the fight. Apparently Floyd trains 8 to 10 hours during training camp but only manages to somehow lose 2-4 lbs. Also by no stretch of the imagination walks around weighing more than 155, ever..even after rehydrating and not doing anything but jogging his daily miles.
2nd, nearly everyone he fights weighs more than him in the ring, even the guys moving up. If Floyd fights Canelo its over 20 pounds different. Why is it so hard for people to understand. Trust if that Canelo was 150 pounds then everyone would be calling Floyd an itch

These comments are comedy. Are people really this ******. Its way to easy for Bob Arum and Dela Hoya to sale a dream. The media plays into it to, they get paid and the majority of so called boxing fans look like fools. I cant blame Floyd, Marquez, and Manny for milking the game its way to easy in boxing.

overhyping the Mayweather product
Another writer that overhypes Floyd cause he is American. It´s their job to make the readers believe he is great in order to keep making money off his name. As I´ve stated before, Floyd is an overhyped product of US marketing geniuses. The ones tha can make an inanimated object ( a sponge ) , a living character. Floyd wins by running and holding, that is absolutely outrageous. He lost vs Castillo and De La Hoya but received gift decisions. He has ducked many fighters ( Martinez, Margarito, Paquiao, a prime Cotto, etc. ). He can´t knockout average oponents. In other words, it´s a product being marketed so consumers buy it. The funny thing is that most consumers usually pay to watch his fights because of his oponent, not him. ( cotto had more fans, for example). And some watch his fights because they hate him ( a marketing strategy ) and want to see the " historic " day when he losses that zero. He can´t break Chavez´record, though of 89-0. I´m wating Ladyfloyd fans.

I don't carry the water for any fighter. The only boxer I've ever pulled for was Arturo Gatti.
Cheers, and thanks for reading.

Haters don't know how to spell credit
Originally posted by DLT View Postgood article. Its like I say, he gets penalyzed for being too good. All these guys from 140-147 can fight eachother and they are pretty much all great must see fights. If Floyd fights him then the fight sucks and he's a cherry picker.
He's only allowed to fight guys at 154-160 who are way bigger than him in the ring and naturally. Not only that but he wont get any extra credit for doing it. Its mandatory that he fights Canelo. Its just an average fight and a fight he should take or he's a coward.
You cant have that. It has to be fair. If you want him to fight them then fine but you better be ready to bow down and give mad credit if he wins because its extroidanary for him to beat a very good fighter who is nearly 25 pounds bigger than him that night and more than that natrually. Thats not a regular fight no matter how anyone wants to spin it
