I think what the guy is getting at is that it is only converted to fat by being combined with other things - it's a technicality really.Comment

You know more than one of the greatest athletes ever ? he is the one telling you not the forum , do you know what variation and moderation means because I will bet you Floyd does not live of ice cream and pizzas , when you make it big in the sports realm you can preach whats right and wrong until then you might want to open your mind , I have known quite a few world class athletes that have a junk food pig out once a week and Ive seen some devour more junk in one session than a bunch of dope heads with the bad munchies .Comment

so he threw some bait out there and was ready to say he was right about something one way or another. had his "techincality" not been called out, he woulda been right, and if his technicality is called out, well then, its a technicality in any case, so he cant really be wrong. so basically he's a douche on top of being uninformed then? cool...Comment

First I want to clarify myself here.
1. I am not saying that you are wrong when you say that people should lower their carbs intake if they want to lose weight. It is much better and more effective way than lowering the fat intake IMO.
2. I am not saying that people should avoid fat and eat carbs (as many as they want) and that it will help them with losing the weight. I don't think it will.
3. I am not propagating any particular diet in here.
I have only ONE CLAIM. Carbs don't normally DIRECTLY TURNS to fats. Not in significant amount.
I'll try to explain it in very simple way.
Simurgh wants to lose weight. So the easiest approach one can understand is to lower the calorie intake - use more than you take and you should lose weight. (not saying it's the best - far from it, but it's easiest to understand, you just need to subtract)
Now there are many diets developed by many different experts and it's proven that everybody reacts differently - so one diet could work better for someone and worse for someone else.
In the simplest way, one can see food in forms of carbs, proteins and fats (of course there is much more in food as vitamins, minerals and many different types of these three categories but I want to keep it simple).
Human body uses carbs and fats as the prime energy source. None of these three categories don't transform to other category (not in normal conditions and in the significant amounts). Normal conditions means normal diet and significant amounts means more than 5%.
Body will use first carbs and then fats. If someone eats high amount of carbs during a day, all required energy will be taken from carbs and all fat (or most of it) that one eats will be stored as fat. So even if you eat small amount of fat if you are eating large amounts of carbs it will still have an effect of storing fat (actual fat that you eat that day). Carbs won't be transformed to fat, but they will prevent your body from using the real fat.
So carbs are not directly converted to fats. There is the case when that can happen but only if one eats zero fats and very large amounts of carbs (700-800gr) for the extended period of time.
What makes you fat while eating carbs is the actual fat you eat with that carbs even if it's in small amounts.Comment
