He's smarter than people give him credit for. Obviously he is no Bernard Hopkins but he is smart enough to execute a game plan, smart enough to know when to go on the offense, apply pressure on the opponent or bait them into going on the offense. I think his victory over Cotto is severely underrated in that regard.

I think his biggest issue is age. Some fighters can't accept the fact that they can no longer do what they did in their youth, it is not ******ity just human nature.

a smart boxer wouldn't have run face first into a right hand... he relies on his power, when that doesn't work as with JMM, he reverts right back to his jab, jab, straight left.

Cotto was outboxing him until he tried to go punch for punch against the 145 lb catchweight Cotto. Remember that they wanted NO rematch at 154. A smart boxer wouldn't care about the weight now would they?

Cmon fellas you don't have to sell us that Pac was a great fighter. We know. But the TS asked was he smart.

I have to say no really. He's not Brandon Rios but he's no where near a guy like Floyd in that department. He had a below average ring IQ.

Look at him now. As he aged he can't change his style and he has nothing to fall back on. Hes still a top fighter but in between the ears hes ****ed. These phases hes going through will be the end of him.

Manny Pacman is a well conditioned fighter gifted with unnatural speed. He isn't a boxing genius but more of an anomaly.

I would say he was slightly above average, he was more a physical freak but he knew the best way to apply his best attributes to get the best results. Now people who could develop (and employ) a strategy to counter that, he couldn't deal with well but those were all top end guys.

That is the thing with Manny at his best if you obliged him in a fight he would beat you bad, but if you did things to stop what he did best he might win but would look very different.

It is not that he didn't have skills to box, or had zero defense, or was totally inept in the ring, I just can't call him more than slightly above average in that regard because there was never an option B that he could turn to when option A was not working properly. If you only have one path to victory you are playing checkers and not chess~

Why is it when fighters start running from Pac and taking slightly less punishment people think he's being outboxed?? This is a common misconception about fighting Pac. When boxers run from Pac, Pac looks bad but that's coz the other guy is running and not fighting. The other guy isn't actually doing well either.

The only way to beat Pac is to stand and fight him like JMM and Morales did.
