Mayweather vs Guerrero/Margarito question

I think Cintron is a better win then those guys.... But I see where your trying to goSo if for the next year or two, Guerrero beat a bunch of ehhhh contenders (guys like Jo Jo Dan, Shawn Porter, Jesus Soto Karass, Mike Jones, Carson Jones, Luis Abregu, guys on that level), people would all of a sudden say he's a big fight for Floyd???
I'm not throwing it away, I just said his legit wins prior to 2006 weren't so much better than Guerrero's, that was the question of the thread. His size difference and because he KO'd a lot of nobodies are why people say it was a big fight. And I said that's a good response because that's the truth.Comment

He ended up being better those guys, but still all Cintron ever did was beat Alfredo Angulo......
Those guys were more in comparison to likes of Andrew Lewis, Antonio Diaz, Manuel Gomez, Danny Perez, Hercules Klyveos (don't know how to spell it).Comment

You have to look at the different situations of the two and the fact that Floyd IMO knew, that Margarito style wise would have given him massive issues. See how easily the Guerrero fight was made? Its because Guerrero is as just as easy to hit as Ortiz and Floyd figures he can pot shot him all fight long, which he will. Margarito in those days was a tall, volume punching machine that was known for walking through massive shots and wearing opponents down. Everyone knew that he'd pick Robert instead of someone like Alvarez or Martinez because hes the easier fight. I'm just glad everyone is finally starting to pick up on this.
So my answer to your question is, it doesn't matter who fought who. Floyd chose Guerrero because hes an easy fight. Just like he was fighting people like Judah (who was coming off a loss) and Baldomir rather than fighters like Williams and Margarito. He wants easy fights and big money, that should be his catch phrase.Comment

You know nothing about boxing if you think PPV sales doesn't decide part of what the bigger names goes for, you don't want name fighters to dismiss certain fighters because of PPV sales well I gotcha but I leave in the real world were they do, from De la Hoya to Hopkins, to Mayweather to Pacquiao, it happens and it doesn't matter what you or I like or dislike about it but its just the way it is, and in 2007 judging by that Williams was a nobody who brings nothing to the table and no Mayweather is not that face of boxing in 2007 De la Hoya was, you need to stop listening to every word that comes out of Mayweather mouth and taking it as the gospel, just because he says he is the face of boxing you don't have to believe him....Geesh I thought you were one of the better posters on here maybe not.Well its ok to dismiss certain fighters because of their ppv sales..... Gotcha
Even though both Ortiz and Guerrero have headlined 0 ppv's combined and May 5 is traditionally a big fight date for the sport
I thought Mayweather was the face of boxing.... Surely he doesn't need help selling ppv's right???Comment

It was sarcasm... In my very first post when I brought Williams and Margarito up I said I don't blame him for it because I understand what the purpose was... Why fight Williams in what surely would have been a tough fight when he could fight someone he matched up better with and like you said brought more to the table.... So we're still on the same pageYou know nothing about boxing if you think PPV sales doesn't decide part of what the bigger names goes for, you don't want name fighters to dismiss certain fighters because of PPV sales well I gotcha but I leave in the real world were they do, from De la Hoya to Hopkins, to Mayweather to Pacquiao, it happens and it doesn't matter what you or I like or dislike about it but its just the way it is, and in 2007 judging by that Williams was a nobody who brings nothing to the table and no Mayweather is not that face of boxing in 2007 De la Hoya was, you need to stop listening to every word that comes out of Mayweather mouth and taking it as the gospel, just because he says he is the face of boxing you don't have to believe him....Geesh I thought you were one of the better posters on here maybe not.
Where we disconnect at is his reasoning for fighting Ortiz and Guerrero and not Williams.... I think that fight didn't happen not because of sales because neither Ortiz or Guerrero are big stars... It just wasn't a good match up for him to take... High risk low reward and once again I don't blame him
If not a "duck" (term which I think gets used too much) I think its entirely feasible to say he avoided the match up
Appreciate the veiled compliment too btw

No sense in arguing with BoxRec historians.
Anyone who was actively following the sport when Margarito punked Floyd would understand why that fight was more intriguing than Floyd vs Guerrero today.Comment
