    Mayweather vs Guerrero/Margarito question

    Okay hear me out.

We have many people claiming Mayweather-Margarito would have somehow been a defining fight for Floyd and one that he absolutely had to have in Late 2006, when the fight was being discussed. They say it was such an important fight for him and it would have been a big win for him.

On the other hand, Guerrero is somehow looked at as a terrible opponent for Floyd, and is seen as a "cherry pick" for Mayweather. They say all Guerrero has done at 147 is beat Aydin, who was Top 10 but didn't have really any big wins at the weight, and Berto, who was overrated and hadn't done all that much at the weight for that to be warranted a good win.

But let's examine what Margarito and Guerrero had done, as well as their couple notable wins at 147 prior to being a possible Mayweather opponent.

Margarito's wins at 147 prior to 2006: Antonio Diaz, Andrew Lewis, Kermit Cintron. Diaz had never really done anything at 147 aside from getting TKO'd by Mosley. Lewis had won a vacant title but his most notable thing he'd done was get beat by Mayorga. Cintron was completely unproven the first time Margarito beat him, hadn't done anything yet. So while these were wins over Top 10 fighters, how proven were they, for us to say Margarito was a huge fight and a must have fight for Mayweather???

Guerrero's wins at 147 prior to 2013: Selcuk Aydin and Andre Berto. Aydin was completely unproven at the weight, but was also Top 10 just as someone like Cintron was at the time. Berto was a former 2x champ at the weight, and had a few wins over the likes of Collazo, Quintana, Urango, and Zaveck. Not huge wins, but better than what Diaz, Lewis, and Cintron had done prior to losing to Margarito.

So the question is........how did Margarito's wins over Diaz/Lewis/Cintron make him a huge fight for Mayweather, but Guerrero with his wins over Aydin and Berto, how is he still a cherry pick and a stiff???

After all, his notable wins at 147, his opponents were just as proven at the weight as Margarito's were.

In other words, you a Mayweather nuthugger are disproving one Mayweather's biggest ducks and hyping up his next opponent who noone wants to watch him fight because he's outclassed

          sounds about right.

I'm not even a huge fan of the Guerrero fight. But it's a legit fight against a top ranked WW.

Just like Margarito would have been in 2006.

They are reaching,Margarito hadn't defeated anyone and won a vacant damn title.Even Arum said the reasont he fight wasn't made was because of Arum

Arum stated that Mayweather would have fought Margarito for the 8 million, but he wanted a guaranteed 10 million to fight Miguel Cotto and Ricky Hatton. Arum only guaranteed him 7 million. And for those who don’t know Cotto and Hatton were at the Mayweather-Gatti fight and Cotto was ranked number 5 by the ring at the time (Proof: Listen to the commentary Jim Lampley at the end of round 5) . Cotto had just moved up to the 140 pound weight class and he didn’t make an offer to fight Mayweather after the Gatti fight.

Arum said Mayweather also asked for $20 million to fight De La Hoya, a fight Arum said he wasn’t interested in participating in. “That’s not in the cards,” Arum said. “He wants $20 million for the De La Hoya fight? It’s not there. Sometimes, my man, you gotta know when to hold ‘em and when to fold ‘em. We’ll talk about things down the road.” Notice this part Arum was talking.

But what had Margarito done that so much better than Guerrero's two wins at the weight??? Nothing. The wins were about the same level, with Berto probably being the most proven of any of Guerrero's or Margarito's notable wins at the time.

and he's a blown up super featherweight

in Margarito's reign at WW only 3 out of 14 fighters went the distance
