I think its a bad move to go down in weight especially at his age. The smart thing to do would stay at 160, but I think he wants Floyd because of the money. It's his health.

Sergio is very lean he doesn't look like he has an ounce to give currently~

Not to mention Dawson is a younger guy so that should be easier for him, the body just doesn't react the same at 38 even as a couple years before not to mention he has fought fairly tough fights recently and might be coming off injuries.

154 is a terrible idea for Sergio mark my words, but he won't burn that bridge because that is where the most money can be made and at 38 it is always wise to seek the most money even if you can't win.

In all seriousness tho, I was one of the guys saying he couldn't make 154 healthily. Maybe they can prove me wrong. Maybe Bushbaby was right. We shall see. Id hate for Martinez to look like **** at 154 and lose to Canelo. Imagine the hype....

I would definitely be a sad fan if Sergio lost to Canelo. But, the reward is worth the risk.

I dont think they are saying he is ducking Ward , I think they are saying its the same deal , Floyd is not that interested in Sergio at 154 an up as he is not a true JMW , and Sergio is not that interested in Ward because he is not a 168 fighter .

You got to understand that all three are stylistic nightmares for anyone including themselves and their styles play right into this , all 3 are fast fighters not brawling power types , so the weight to speed ratios matter with them quite a bit 3 because its speed against speed , for instance if Froch had the status of Floyd and offered a fight to Sergio I would bet that Sergio would jump on it .

We'll agree to disagree, our eyes see differently then. Glen Johnson was small for LHW as well, he was able to move down to 168 and look equally if not more impressive. Martinez does walk around in the 180s I believe it is, but that more than anything looks like bad habits, which he can easily put in check.

I think they would all rather fight each other than take a pay cut to fight the dangerous Martinez. If Trout beats Cotto I think he would fight Martinez at 154 but Trout won't make Martinez that much money.
Well Martinez just fought a big draw on ppv and the numbers are pretty good so I don't think he's low reward anymore. It's just that Cotto/Canelo is a more natural fight because both guys have been fighting at 154 for the last couple years, unlike Martinez, and both are champions there (Trout's belt already belongs to Cotto, the fight will be a formality).

Ive been on this site long enough to know what happens if he moves down and gets KTFO by Cotto, Canelo or Floyd. Because imo at 154 all 3 are the likely result if hes not healthy.

Dawson shouldve did the same thing....

Even Oscar said hell let me fight Forbes at 150 atleast. And when Forbes busted his ass up he shouldve known then to back off.

But money talks as Martinez will likely find out.
So who should be Sergio's tune-up? I personally don't think he has time for that. And seeing how GBP have been matching Canelo up, it's a fight they would probably take since their thought-process would be "he's weight-drained". GBP doesn't give a shit about the "legacy" aspect, as long as the fight can make money, it's a go. Mayweather/Cotto/Martinez, in the order of how much $$$ they're worth.

At 38 bad habits are there and dropping weight would only hasten his decline.

Glen Johnson was not a guy who relied on speed, movement and reflexes~ and he always stayed in shape.

I wish Martinez good luck if he tries to go to 154 he will need it~

                    Sweet Jesus!

                    This^…

Im nearly to the point where im not just hoping, but expecting. Will probably be let down tho lol.

Although, i wouldnt be surprised if it ended up being canelo vs mayweather on cinco de mayo, and cotto-martinez early june in msg. Canelo is a hot ticket, especially on upcoming may 5th. Both fighters(floyd-cotto) will try to cash that check in, but im guessing canelo would pick floyd over cotto. That is ofcourse, canelo doesnt scare mayweather too much with his recent performance(s)

I would personally ask Ban Stick to delete my account if Martinez lost to Canelo... This place would go bananas "See I told you so."

Note: I don't think a healthy Martinez anyway anyhow loses to Canelo. Idk where the hell this 50/50 fight comes from.
