Rules are different, gloves, etc. its like basketball, Kareem scored all those point s because centers could camp out in the middle all game long. I think Sugar Ray was one of the all time greats, but I grew up watching boxing during the Leonard, haggles, hearts, Duran days, and all of them would give ray would've gave Ray hell. It's all a matter of opinion, my son thinks sweet Pea is the greatest ever...go figure

Oh and don't forget folks, he won so this means Sugar Ray was passed his prime lol
Robinson's Resume features at least 5 hall of famers not including AArmstrong.[/QUOTE]
120 fights with 1 loss mainly against cans and shot fighters.
Brian Nielson was 50-0 at one point
Chris John is 47-0 with hall of famers on his resume.
Lets take a quick look at the type of opposition Sugar Rays record was padded with during his prime...
Tommy Bell 39-10-2 = A fight he arguably lost.
Georgie Abrams is another.
Henry Brimm 23-9-2 a fight he received a gift draw in.
Look at all the losing records on his resume & guys with shed loads of losses against absolute nobodies who never beat anybody worth a damn.
No wonder he was fighting every week he was fighting guys with 20-30+ losses
Eddie Finazzo, Flashy Sebastian, Sammy Secreet could you imagine the outcry if say Floyd Mayweather despite his lay off etc was to fight opposition like this? These guys wouldn't even make it today as a sparring partner let alone be ranked at all.

Not really, I mixed up two fighters with the same first name, my mistake but easily done considering all these old timers on black & white film look pretty much identical.
He then showed Kid Gavilan - Wasn't worthy of a reply really. Anybody that knows boxing knows that footwork was impressive for his respected era but overall, rubbish.
Off balance, lunging in, flat footed, crossing his feet.
Hes another supposedly ATG. How can you call a fighter an all time great who lost over 25% of their fights? Seriously.

Some seriously wank posting here man, Robinson is viewed as THE Greatest for a reason and anyone who knows anything about boxing should know he is at very least one of the greatest that ever did it. I tend to agree that he is in fact the best ever.

And if Ring magazine said Sven Ottke was the best ever, I'm sure there would be a bandwagon too.
Not sure how he can be the best ever when he avoided the best of his time, arguably doesn't even have the greatest achievements & sure as hell would get his ass kicked from pillar to post by many many fighters since.
Best of his time in his respected era - Possibly.
Best ever - No chance.
Willie Pep >>Sugar Ray.
