Yeah you can definitely ruin a fighter by overprotecting them. Part of the problem is our infatuation with "perfect" records. Which probably made them go a little overboard after seeing him get hurt against 'lil Cotto.

If I disagree with something, I'm gonna lay the hammer and also publicly praise when I agree with something. It's called taking the good with the bad.

I've been watching boxing my whole life since I was like 5 years old. I've just reached a point to where I'm tired of fans agreeing with what these promoters do and finding a reason to defend it.

I don't know if this started with Mayweather cherry picking or what. But DLH, Tyson, Holyfield, Lewis, Ali, Chavez and many others NEVER did anything like this and defended it because of business.

Anyone that advocates that, I'll have to disagree with them while we might agree on many other topics. But as a fan of the sport, I can't allow posts like New England to become a cancer and spread as an idealogy. I just can't unless I'm banned and have no choice.

But as long as I'm here, I'll publicly praise and publicly get in someone's ass if I have too. If you can't take it then oh well.

For the record, I've never accused New England of being a fan boy. EVER. But I will not advocate or agree with him making excuses and finding hidden undisclosed reasons behind GBP psyche as an excuse to ducking tough/deserving fighters. No, I won't agree to it.
I can dig it bro, but Chavez senior's resume is packed with a $h!tload of tomato cans.

BTW I do feel that this business 1st mentality that fans are so protected of, did start with Floyd cherrypicking.

first of all i'm not asking you to love it. you have to be patient, and evidently i've got to tell you that. you cant pressure a promoter into making the wrong moves. he will not make them. if he does eventually he's going to pay for it

        who is we?

promoters have never operated to please "you"

down the line you will get the fights you want. fans wanting fights is important to a promoter along the lines that it makes them more money. in that light, eventually you'll see canelo cash out and see him in the big fights.

that's how the game has always worked.

i'm curious, how long have you watched boxing?
yeah when the same guys who are a threat now are no longer a threat. by that time they will be avoiding the new threats but fans will come on here and say "you guys are never happy!" or "he can't fight everyone!" round and round but what never happens is the best fight the best when so much money is on the line. if you are unpopular then you have to fight the best. as soon as they start the hype machine it's over.

This is the business of boxing & the funny thing is, it all started with Floyd. That's exactly what his fans do. "You guys are never happy, he can't fight everbody". You hit the nail on the head bro.

JR was accused of the very same thing..
and now he's fighting martinez for the real MW championship of the world.

canelo will step up eventually. not to please fans, but to make people money.

i dont have any love for goldenboy or ring mag, but the belt they ahve is the best we've got interms of designating a real champion with a belt.

lennox lewis was protected for years until he was ready

tyson did not fight the best, one after the other, during his reign.

                  the phenomenon is not new.

only the best of the best fighters historically have fought scores of top 10 contenders from the time they were prospects to contenders to champions.

hell, back in the day they could drop their belts and take tune ups against comlete tomato cans

you have no idea what the NSB complaining would look like if greb or robinson took some of the tune ups they took when they were MW champion

they fought debuting fighters, total bums, smaller guys, whoever.

he had some help from al haymon

i wont deny that a small part of me respects what they do in that regard
a tiny part. al haymon is the best in the world at what he does.

it's not a sport to either of them. it's a job.

you know damn well i love to see men beat the snot out of eachother, and we dont see that with careful matchmaking.

Cute attempt at an insult. Different stages of their career. Jr is 4 years older, has been a pro for almost a decade, has more fights and seems to be su****iously avoiding random drug testing.

And I'm pretty certain Canelo would take a fight with Mayweather or Pacquiao in a second.
