whether it puts me in a win win situation, its still the truth. there have been numerous elite level fighters who have suffered injuries on the level of ortiz', but for the most part, most of them fought through it. u can name one or two who didnt, im sure, i never thought u couldnt. but that doesnt take away from the fact. its things like this that separate the elite from the very good.

Your post made me realize something. I should be giving him a lot more credit for beating Ortiz. I was thinking Ortiz was probably distracted, underestimated Lopez, that Ortiz fought a ****** fight, etc. But beating Ortiz at 147 is a very impressive win for a Jnr Welterweight.Comment

No, nothing like that. Abraham had a worse break and more serious surgery (22 screws and two plates for Abraham, 3 screws and one plate for "Vicious"). It had no effect on his career.
Many fighters have had broken jaws. I can't remember any of them having career problems afterward. You know what else I can't remember... any of them quitting. Not one.Comment

Not all elite fighters have had their jaws broken so there really is no way to know whether all the greats would be willing to continue if that happened to them. We assume they would, but I don't know if there are enough examples to assume that everyone would do it. "elite" fighters have quit for much less than thatComment

Much respect to Ortiz! Crazy he fought on as long as he did with those injuries. He'll take Lopez out in the rematch. Hope he fires that garbage trainer of his in the mean time.Comment

whether he should have continued or not, to me, he still proved hes not elite. put any of the top fighters in the sport in that same position and 10 times outta 10, most of them would have continued. its the truth. ortiz isnt that guy. whether he was justified or not, and i never said he wasnt, thats what separates the elite from the very good. so, no ortiz is still not a warrior. ortiz is ortiz. a very good fighter who lacks the mentality to be great. no matter how u spin it, thats still the case.
