it's been done, but you know that.

ortiz couldnt even talk or close his mouth. i cant really give the kid a hard time for not wanting to box three more rounds.

Exactly. He was in there with a demented Lopez. The fight in september was obviously lost. I personally don't think any boxingscene member would have carried on.

Tough call. If he could have kept his mouth closed and the mouth piece in, then yeah sure. I thought he was just punking out again last night but in the dressing room, you could see that he was just drooling out massive blood and he couldn't talk. Had he been able to spit out the blood and show some stability in the jaw, I'd question his heart again but he really looked messed up. Looked like the jawbone pierced the inner cheek via compound fracture and fighting with that condition could have done irreparable damage.

I didnt score the fight but I thought it was dead even. Lopez was landing tons of hard shots on Ortiz' chin the whole fight. I dont know how I would have scored it but just from watching it, it was totally even.

I voted no because different people have different tolerances for pain.

I'm just looking forward to the rematch. That was one helluva fight.

the truth of the matter is , Ortiz was fighting very cautions the last 3-4 rds because he was tagged frequently. it seems to me that he was looking for a way out.HBO made us listen to the conversation with the referee in between the last Rd's:
                    Referee: What is the problem?
Ortiz: I got a broken jaw.
Referee: So you want to stop the fight?
Ortiz: Well, I got a broken jaw, yes.
Referee: (waving his hands over Ortiz) It's over !!!
Look now at the Hollywood act of Ortiz as he raise up from his stool and start to walk up as he wants to continue fighting and gently pushes his corner man to put in the mouth piece again...
The problem is not the Jaw but the heart and his mental issues.
Why putting up a fake Hollywood act if he had a so called justified injury?
Answer: Ortiz is insecure and he himself knew that the injury was not severe in nature and he could have continued if he only wanted but he didn't like the way his opponent was punching back all the time

Of course he could have continued.

He didn't have a broken back or anything where he was unable to continue.

He could have continued but he chose not to.
