Exactly it infuriates the **** outta me too see people calling Vic a quitter after this.Against Maidana yes he did but last night no Lopez nailed him badly around the jaw area after he broke it.Id be more worried if Vic can return from this loss though

Mental toughness is deffinately not a strength in his game IMO. I thought he was on pace to KO Lopez and at least thought he shoulda tried it for 1 more round.

I know other fighters have fought on with a broken jaw, like Ali vs Norton, but can he be called a quitter if he wasnt able to continue?

The doctor wasnt called to asses his condition. Would he of stopped the fight?
His corner wanted him to continue. Plenty of fighters have fought through similar or worse. He had a huge fight on the line. All he had to do was survive to get the decision. Yeah, he should have continued. At the very least he could have given round 10 a try.

I think you should try a different sport, if you are really that concerned about his jaw being broken and think his career would have ended if the fight kept going. Lots of fighters fight on with similar or worse injuries, and are just fine going forward.

He would've been in pain the rest of the fight, probably intense pain anytime he got hit, which is why he suddenly went into retreat late in the 9th round.

There are guys who would've continued, but given his style he had 3 more rounds of taking flush shots on a broken jaw. I understand why he chose not to carry on, the fact that he never seems to care much about losing just makes the situation look like a lack of heart, but a lot of fighters wouldn't have wanted to carry on in that situation.

I think it rather immature for us on the web to sit there & debate whether a fighter should continue fighting with a broken jaw. We don't know exactly how broken his jaw was, if it was snapped or just cracked, if the bone broke the skin on the inside of his mouth. Ortiz did say that the jaw was broken around the 1st round. That's an awful lot of rounds to fight with a ****ed up kisser, getting popped with hard shots from a man that came to win.

Can I ask how many of you have carried on fighting with a broken jaw? What none of you? Really? Maybe tone down the condemnation in this case then. Never mind what Malignaggi et al have done in the past, being hit repeatedly on a broken jaw would be agony, I'd rather get kicked in the nuts.
