I don't blame Ortiz for quitting. But that was the last thing that needed to happen. Being that he already has a reputation for being a quitter. Tough break (No pun intended).

He should have at least let the doctor see if he can continue.

Pride would make you finish the fight.

Its not a wise idea to continue but its 3 rounds.... to me its a no brainer you finish what you started, thats how i look at it.

Whenever i've got into fights i've never been scared of being hurt, just the fact i might lose.

why not? Other fighters have with broken jaws.

He could have at least tried to go out on his shield and give it everything he had because he had lopez hurt and tired. Now he's going to regret this for the rest of his life.

He will always be known as a quitter.

I bet you if lopez had the broken jaw he would have kept going.

          Ortiz didn't even try.

Arthur Abraham had no problem continuing despite wanting to quit plenty - his corner kept telling him to shut up and throwing him out there lmao.

and Ali had no problem continuing with his broken jaw.. .Im sure there are far more broken jaw cases in the sport. He could have continued. He wanted a out.

Real man talk, you are confusing heart and toughness with lack of intelligence.
I hope your knee got ok and you have no long time issues for not letting it heal properly.

I have no problem with criticising Victor for the lack of mental toughness in his mindset, because that is a valid point and it hurt his career at several point. At the same time, success in his career seems to be not his number one main priority and that is his right, because he is the one feeding his family by risking his life in the ring, not me. And his laid back attitude is a bit refreshing compared to the views of those that think getting permanent eye damage for the sheer reason of ******ity and lack of responsibility or loading your wraps are traits of a "warrior".

What I do have a problem with is the ridiculous form of most of this criticism, which can be summarized to "Quitor Bumtiz quit again lolz, I would have done so much better, yay me". Which is childish and classless and uneducated to say the least.

I don't blame him at all for not continuing. Lopez was landing some vicious hooks and uppercuts all night. A few more for those and Ortiz's jaw would have been on the floor. The fact that he quit vs Maidana is ammunition for all the keyboard warriors to jump on the guy but unwarranted.

I don't fault him, he wasn't getting the Canelo fight even if he continued on and won. He had to win without a scratch in order for the fight to proceed in September. The dude couldn't close his mouth and he is no defensive wizard. Could he have continued though? I think he could have but for what, to risk further injury?

Could've he continued? probably. His arms and legs were still working fine. Should've he continued? I don't think so. Ortiz was leaking blood from his mouth. There was 9 mins left, and Lopez was tagging him consistently, he was a man on a mission. I doubt Ortiz would make it to the 12th and he would be in worst physical shape than had he not forfeited.
