    The rest is history.

Had Jones stayed down at LHW, fought Tarver then, etc. We would have never seen him lose to the likes of Tarver, Green, Johnson and Calzaghe. Hopkins would have never touched Roy prior to the move to heavyweight.

The irony is that in order to make history, Roy essentially ended his own career and lost his place in the top ten ATG's.

It's a shame but I will always be a Jones fan to the core. No body could match him at his best.
    Well said.

Prime Roy never gets hit by that lucky, eyes closed, hail mary shot Tarver threw. He would have annihilated Tarver like he did everybody else in his prime. People like to say he duclked somebody but it's their job to bring something when attempting to face the p4p king. Much like how Mayweather or Pacquiao aren't about to travel to fight a challenger now that they are the best.

I hope you are right but hanging on like he has for so long losing to much lesser guys hurts his standing in the eyes of boxing fans who don't understand what they are seeing.

obviously going from fighting a heavyweight at 199lbs then fighting a top LHW was the issue. dropping all that weight & tarver was way faster then ruiz. RJJ was never the same. chris byrd tried to drop down to LHW & got ko'd by george.

You can't be considered a 'duck' unless your prime is in the same era as the other guys.. This is a vital point here.

People who say Roy ducked Benn Eubank etc are idiots. Their primes were not the same time. By the time Roy was hitting his peak status, Benn and Eubank was clearly faded. Gerald was Benn's swansong and that's it.

This goes for Calzaghe too, Calzage haters who say he 'ducked' Roy during Roy's prime are ****** as well since they are different times.

This also goes for Lennox Lewis haters who say he 'ducked vitali to avoid a rematch'

If Lennox is in this current era and never rematched vitali, that's 100% a duck. But lewis fought vitali at 37 then retired. That's not a duck, that's called a old old man tko6 a young hungry champion, then retiring...

                Here are true ducks....

Rid**** Bowe- same era as lewis duck quacky

Pacqiao AND Floyd ducking each other

                Sven Ottke - ducking everyone

                these are true ducks

NOW for Dariuz the tiger, I say dariuz ducked roy and vice versa. The blame falls on each other.

McCallum was a 40 year old former welterweight, Griffin wasn't that good, ever since he came back down from heavyweight, that did hurt him, but he would have lost to Bhop, Calzaghe, Tarver and Johnson at that point of his career any way, once he lost a step, his chin got exposed. He hasn't beat anyone real since Tarver, he beat Trindad (a welterweight champ, back from 2 year retirement), Jeff Lacy (washed-up 168 champ) and Omar Shieka (washed-up). Roy was not an all-time great at 175, he didn't really beat anyone at 175.

Roy ducked Benn, he was scared after what he did to McCellan, Roy moved up to 175 to face 40 year old McCallum (147 ex-champ), Benn might not have won, but he would have hurt Roy, no doubt, Benn was an animal and Roy avoided him.
