when you look at the peak, and post peak, career of roy jones jr....the biggest question mark has to be, had roy jones jr., not went up to heavy, grab a title, and move back down to 175, does roy jones jr., at lightheavyweight, continue to soundly beat the likes of antonio tarver, joe calzaghe, glen johnson, dennis lebedev, danny green, and bernard hopkins past 35 years of age...the same age where fighters like muhammad ali, and sugar ray leonard, drastically declined, and took whippings, that they probably would not have taken, in their primes...

also a big question mark in the career of roy jones jr. in his peak...how much, is roy jones responsible for, in regards to not making fights with the likes of nigel benn, chris eubank, darius michelczewski, prime joe calzaghe, or the non u.s. champs, when all roads, led to roy jones in the united states, at the peak of his career....one thing is for certain...roy jones career, remains one of the great enigmas, in modern boxing...

      Fact: Roy made history.
People will remember Jones for winning the hw title. People won't remember that he came back down to lhw from hvw and won a title that fans always thought was his title. The shock of the Tarver ko will last longer than your fact and opinion outlook.

Its not an outlook... Its fact and opinion wtf?

        "people"

        What people?

Who cares what John Smith down the street thinks, when the boxing historians put together the facts and rank fighters based on accomplishments, 50 years from now, you damn right it matters.

Casual fan? Let's keep them out of this

I'm a big Jones fan, and I've been a boxing fan for 38 years. Of course we will remember prime Jones...always. Historians who judged the last top 80 fighters who ever lived will point this out, but Tarvers name will be mentioned along with Jones name when talking about Jones. That's all I'm saying.

People, what people??? Fans like me and you will remember, wtf, lmao! We know the history part. Long after we're dead film of Jones will be shown of how good Jones used to be. And I bet they also show Jones getting clipped by Tarver.

People will mention Tarvers name when they talk about Jones, period. Tarver isn't greater. Losing to Tarver doesnt take anything from Jones historically.

I'm not saying YOU are a casual fan, I'm saying the only people who will associate Jones with the Tarver fights will be casual fans. A real boxing fan will always be at least something of a historian. Everyone else is just a casual fan in my book. Do I and others like me associate Louis with the Marciano fight? Or Ali with the Holmes fight? Or Ray Leonard with the Camacho fight? Hell no! We usually don't think of those fights at all unless someone else brings them up. Because they aren't relevant as those fighters were washed up when they happened. We won't treat Roy any differently.

You were just talking about casual fans and what they will say, which is why I said like who? Who cares what casual fans say, casual fans dont know **** about anything and generally get 80% of **** wrong no matter what subject theyre talking about the sport. I dont care what casual fans have to say.

When you go on you tube and type in roy jones youre gonna get about 500 different highlight videos... Only if you type in roy tarver will you see anything like that.

Jones Tarver was levels higher than Ali Holmes, Sugar Camacho. Ali and sugar were clearly shot. Tarver wasnt the first to beat Jones, but in my world, he was the first to not only beat Jones, but stop him. Jones was not viewed as close shot at all. We knew as Jones fans that he never should've rematched Tarver, but the pride of Jones or any fighter in that situation is something we can't control. I know I didn't think that Jones should've rematch Tarver. Imo Jones didn't have to prove a thing to me, but himself...that's another story.

Anybody who watched the first Tarver fight could tell Roy had slipped badly unless they were completely fooling themselves. His reflexes were damn near gone. Whether that was from coming back down from Heavy or it was from age is immaterial. When your reflexes start to slide you're past it, when they're practically gone you're shot. And that's the bottom-line.

First off I never even used the words "casual fans". I used the word people. People doesn't just allude to the casual fan. I used it as.any fan with a memory of Jones from the Olympics until today.

And don't assume that you know what all casual fans know because if I had to assume what they know, then I'd assume that they would... if anything, remember Jones shockingly losing to Tarver more than going back down to lhw, and winning a title that was always his.

Go to YouTube? Are you kidding me. Even YouTube might have Jones this, Jones that, Jones loses to Tarver on the first screen.
