It's really mind boggling. Especially since it isn't a reaction to an obnoxiously mouthy nuthugger contingent. Roy doesn't really have one of those these days so I'm not sure where the negativity is coming from.

what do you think would have happened to his legacy if, after beating Tarver, he just says "Hey, I'm 35 years old, my body just doesn't feel the same after going up to heavyweight and coming back down to recapture the light heavyweight title. You will see me at ring side, but that was the last of Roy in the ring"
      Because hes a competitor.

He was groomed his whole life to compete and be the best. The whole world just saw him fight life and death in a close fight.

If he retires, he gets labelled an official ducker, scared, and a *****.... Or he mans up and risks losing.

He manned up, and he lost.... But there aint no what ifs in his head.

And if you ask him today if he regrets not retiring after Ruiz, he would tell you no, as he has in plenty of interviews.

Everyone who thinks that Jones did the right thing by going back down to lhw is wrong. How do I know. Look at Jones now!

And then got flattened in his next bout against Johnson, took a year-plus off, came back and stepped in the ring with Tarver minus any tune-up. Oscar De La Hoya would've left the scene after Tarver I. Roy really shouldn't have done that though. A confidence builder or two might've helped before Tarver III. Instead he went in and a great battle against The Magic Man but seemed to be fighting a bigger one with his own demons.

            Nah.

"right now" only lasts a little while.

            History lasts forever.

Recapturing the LHW title was making history.

Roy wanted a tune up, HBO refused to give it to him.. Especially after Johnson, Hbo wanted Tarver III

Nobody will remember that except me and you, and Jones fans. Sure it'll be in the history books, but fans will remember the Tarver ko long after Jones making history by coming back down to lhw.

One is fact, one is opinion.

Opinion: fans will only remember Roy for getting ktfo (which is ridiculous)

                    Fact: Roy made history.

Nobody cares what casual fans remember. Your typical sports fan has a memory that goes back, oh, about ten minutes. Real boxing fans will remember Jones from his prime. The same way they remember Joe Louis from HIS prime.
