How come Shane never fought Stevie Johnston??????

Johnston was right there at 135 beating Mendy, Bazan, Manfredy, and a Mosley fight never happened for him in the late 90's. Stevie could box, I'm not saying he'd beat Mosley, but if Holiday could throw Mosley some problems, I think Johnston could have in his prime.

Castillo didn't really come on until 99-00 with his Johnston and Bazan fights. But damn Mosley-Castillo and Mosley-Johnston would have been great fights.

Mosley-Castillo would have been a classic.

Shane and HBO offered Johnston 450k for a fight. Johnston turned it down and Mosley fought John Brown instead in his last fight at 135.

Mayweather-Johnston could have happened had Johnston beaten Lazcano in the Summer 2003, but he lost, really the last time Johnston was relevant/good. And than Lazcano turned down a Mayweather fight. Mayweather fought Castillo, who beat Johnston, although both fights were two of the closest fights I've seen.

After Floyd beat Castillo. Floyd went on and called everyone out including Johnston. So Johnston accepts the offer. Floyd had a Johnston fight on the table. And, Floyd turned it down and then went on to offer Lazcano a million dollars(Johnston wasn't even asking for a mili either) Lazcano turned it down cuz' it was on a 2 weeks notice or short notice. And, Lazcano said after what happened with Golden Johnson he wouldn't take a short notice fight again. So then Floyd fought Victoriano Sosa.

Johnston knowing the offer Floyd made to Lazcano, went after Lazcano in a WBC eliminator fight. To try and force Floyd hand into fighting or have him get stripped since Floyd passed on a Johnston fight earlier that year. But, Johnston lost to Lazcano, and Floyd fought Ndou.

Then Floyd wanted to fight Gatti at 140. But, Gatti wasn't eager to fight him. So Floyd went on to try and fight eliminator. First he offered Spadafora a fight at 140 for a WBC eliminator. But, Spaddy cuz' of having troubles with the law got his boxing license suspended by plenty of states. He could only fight in his state of Pennsylvania and Floyd didn't want to fight him in his backyard. Arum said he could possibly get him a license in Michigan but Spaddy didn't want to fight Floyd in his hometown. So Spadafora passed on it. Then they went and offer Lazcano a fight again for the the WBC eliminator at 140. This time NO short notice. And, Lazcano passed on it and took less money to fight Castillo. So that left Floyd with Corley and then an eliminator with Bruseles to force Gatti hand on giving him his shot.

I'd have loved to have seen Mayweather-Johnston. Seemed like he didn't want it though. I'm confident he would have beaten him.

Forgot about the Johnston thing, my bad. I just love Stevie Johnston, probably bias because he's from the 4Corners and grew up in the same neighborhood.

And forgot the first Mayweather-Lazcano was a short notice, I think I was remembering when they could have fought in 2004 and Lazcano turned it down to fight Castillo, who he lost to anyway.

I don't have a problem with the way everything went down for Floyd, it just is what it is. Happens eith plenty of fighters.

He didn't want any part of Johsnton at that point. He had an offer to fight Johnston and straight turned him down and went on to offer Lazcano a fight before settling for Sosa as an opponent.

There was really no reason for Floyd to fight Johnston after Stevie lost to Lazcano, because Stevie was done after that, and this is coming from a Denver native/Stevie Johnston fan.

Floyd could have fought Stevie instead of Sosa in Early 2003, but Stevie hadn't really done much since losing the close fight wtih Castillo. Still though, Floyd should have and could have fought Stevie in 2003.

Either way, Shane should have and could have fought Stevie during his peak from 1995-2000 (more specifically 1997-1999), when both were the Top LW's. Shane should get much more blame for never fighting Stevie.

Johnston had done more than Sosa at that point. Was still a top LW and still boderline P4P. Sosa really hadn't done much, besides giving Spadafora a tough fight.

Shane did offer Johnston 450k a career high payday at that time. Johnston turned it down. Now even though it was a career high payday did Johnston deserved more? Sure, it can be debatable. I won't argue. But, at least there was an interest shown by Shane...Floyd didn't show no such interest instead of what he said on camera. Floyd deserves more of the blame in not fight Stevie than Shane does.

But, for some reason, he avoided Margarito and Johnston. Those are the only 2 guys that I can say Floyd never showed an interest or eagerness to fight besides what he said on camera.

It's a real shame that didn't happen. Out of all the fights Mayweather "avoided" that's one of the only one's that he actually did avoid or find a way around.

I wonder if Johnston had beaten Lazcano, if Mayweather would have fought him then. I guess that stay's in the mystery.

I've always said the Margarito fight as well. I don't think it hurts his legacy, but he could have fought him in 2005 or something, instead of Sharmba Mitchell for christ sake.

Casamayor's another one. I don't think Mayweather avoided him, per se.

Firstly, the timing was a little wrong for his stay at 130.

But, Casamayor's team insisted Mayweather turned down a good offer to fight him. Whilst, Mayweather team said the exact same thing.

The negotiations were very brief so I was never really sure who the fault was on for that one. I think Mayweather wanted the fight though.

And I personally think he didn't want to fight Margarito at that point because he simply didn't want to risk the Oscar fight. Knowing it would take him to super stardom, what he worked his whole life for.

That's how I always saw it.

You could see how tense was Mayweather was in the Oscar fight. His life depended on that fight. It's possibly the least relaxed I've seen him in the ring.
