Johnston was right there at 135 beating Mendy, Bazan, Manfredy, and a Mosley fight never happened for him in the late 90's. Stevie could box, I'm not saying he'd beat Mosley, but if Holiday could throw Mosley some problems, I think Johnston could have in his prime.

Castillo didn't really come on until 99-00 with his Johnston and Bazan fights. But damn Mosley-Castillo and Mosley-Johnston would have been great fights.

Mosley-Castillo would have been a classic.
I don't know exactly why Johnston never fought Mosley or Mayweather for that matter. Both would have been very quality fights.

I would assume it was the very common issue of not enough interest thus not enough money to make all the guys happy with the risk.

      It is a shame really.

Mayweather-Johnston could have happened had Johnston beaten Lazcano in the Summer 2003, but he lost, really the last time Johnston was relevant/good. And than Lazcano turned down a Mayweather fight. Mayweather fought Castillo, who beat Johnston, although both fights were two of the closest fights I've seen.

It could have happened anyway, considering how the Floyd JLC fights played out one very close and the other closer than his other fights not involving JLC.

He would have been a more recognizeable opponent than Sosa or N'Dou if not better. Plus him doing better than JLC against Johnston would have given him even more distance in people's minds from JLC.

I know that. But I think Floyd would have fought Johnston if he'd beaten Lazcano. Because Floyd tried to fight Lazcano after Lazcano beat Johnston, but Lazcano didn't fight him.

The first FMJ-JLC fight was close as hell. I had JLC winning by a point. But the second fight, Floyd won a clear UD (8-4) to me.

It is possible, but the fight with the Hispanic Causin Panic never came off so why not fight Johnston since he was leaving the division anyways, Lazcano liked his chances better against JLC than he did against Floyd.

I thought Floyd won both, but both those fights are closer than anything before or after really for Floyd, the second was much more clear though.

                He should have fought Johnston.

Seemed like Myweather didn't want it t that point to me.

There was really no reason for Floyd to fight Johnston after Stevie lost to Lazcano, because Stevie was done after that, and this is coming from a Denver native/Stevie Johnston fan.

Floyd could have fought Stevie instead of Sosa in Early 2003, but Stevie hadn't really done much since losing the close fight wtih Castillo. Still though, Floyd should have and could have fought Stevie in 2003.

Either way, Shane should have and could have fought Stevie during his peak from 1995-2000 (more specifically 1997-1999), when both were the Top LW's. Shane should get much more blame for never fighting Stevie.

It is not like he hung out at 135 and Gatti was a much juicier target.

Still he could have slipped in Johnston, but I don't know how anxious Johnston was to face him either, Floyd did bring decent money with HBO but I doubt Top Rank wanted to pay for both.

Yea Shane had a much longer run at 135 and never fought a guy the caliber of JLC so his 135 ledger could use that positive.

He was a guy I would have liked to see against either, regardless of circumstances.
