Why is Ray Leonard not considered the GOAT?

IMO he should get more recognition at the best ever. Ray was a master in the ring. Please give me a reason why he is not the GOAT

He is close but not quite the greatest of all time. Leonard lost in the prime of his career and this shouldn't happen to a fighter who is the greatest of all time. Also he doesn't have enough fights against the best contenders which hurts longevity. Those are the two main reasons.

I consider it relatively one-sided. I mean, it wasn't an complete blow out but I wouldn't consider it competitive.

And yeah, he was still an absolute prospect.

The fact remains that the Mayweather Sr-Leonard fight is completely and utterly irrelevant in regards to who would win between Mayweather Jr and Leonard.

Me personally? I'd pick Ray Leonard by a close by clear Decision, UD.

I agree. Junior and Senior are vastly different fighters. Junior is better but I'd pick SRL to knock him out.

Continue on with so on. That's about where the list ends of fighters ahead of Ray. Henry Armstrong also but Ray is in the top 10 of all time.

Ray Leonard is a great fighter, one of the greatest fighters of the last 30 years. Despite not being the greatest fighter of his era.

But the reason he isn't he isn't the greatest of all time is because his resume simply doesn't allow it.

He probably has the strongest 4 signature wins of all time, arguably. But, he has a lack of depth beyond that. As opposed to other past greats.

I'd have him around the Top 20 mark.

Roy jones has a few great wins, hopkins & toney for example, but nothing compares to leonard's resume, not modern day fighters. Duran, Hearns, Hagler, Benetiz. That's just incredible.

That is a nice list but Ray Leonards talents in the ring are unseen nowadays. Still think Ray smokes Mayweather and Pacquiao respectively.

He's clearly the bigger man. People seem to forget that Mayweather didn't start fighting at WW until he was 28, and that 47 isn't necessarily his best weight.
