One guy Bute needs to keep away from his Bernard. Far far away.

There's nothing to gain with fighting Hopkins at this stage.

        It's a lose lose situation.

If you beat him, then you beat a guy who finally got old who's pushing 50. And, then you will have to worry with B-hop making it ugly in there and possibly rolling around the floor either to get point deducted or the fight stopped or some breather.

And, if you lose, then you lose to a guy who's pushing 50.

        There's really nothing to gain.

Just fight the best available SMW.

So fighting Froch coming off a loss after Froch has fought one of the toughest schedules in the past 2 years (i.e SS tourny) makes it better?

What's wrong with Cloud? If he'll fight Hopkins at a cw, why can't he do the same with Cloud?

PS: I can see how some can use the "old man" excuse against B-hop, but the same can be said about Froch who's possibly shop worn after the tourny. This is why a rough undefeated, solid fighter in Cloud is the best thing right now. Bute and Cloud were already negotiating, they should just finish what they started.

Most here think Froch beats Bute, so obviously it is a legit fight if a lot are picking Froch to win.

Froch might be shopworn. He might be slowing down. His age with the schedule he has had would do that.

But, IMO people would give him more credit for beating Froch then they would for beating Hopkins. And, lets be honest Bute is not going to dominate B-Hop. Because, B-hop is too smart either he would be competitive or he will fake low blows to get breathers hit behind the head roll around on the ground and just make it ugly. Calzaghe didn't really get that much credit beating B-Hop and that was a few years ago imagine now? The only good thing that would come out if he beat Hopkins. Is that it's that he would be prepared for Ward style a little bit better

I don't mind a Cloud fight. I think Cloud needs it more than Bute. So that's a good fight. Because, Cloud as much as I like him hasn't done a damn thing really. He has had a senior citizen tour, fights once a year. And, also fights guy coming off of losses same thing you criticize Bute for. But, I'm all for that fight as well. I think it's just as good as the Froch fight.

Froch got 18 votes out of 58.

I'm not a math major, but I wouldn't consider that "most" by any means.

I don't think anyone can discredit a Cloud victory. Especially if he beats him impressively.

I'm just trying to save us some time and excuses. If Bute selects the right opponent the first time around, we as fans and Ward can somewhat acknowledge his resume as being better.

Reading posts it seems a lot more even. Anyone can click a name and not give a viable reason for their position, even I think it's a 50/50 fight.

Bute resume is already pretty solid. His resume is good enough where you can rank him as the #1 contender at 168.

The problem with Bute resume is that there hasn't been a versatility of opponents styles. That's the only thing one can criticize without sounding like a hater. Beating Froch or Cloud for that matter doesn't change that perception either. Because, they both have that similar style that Bute has had success over.
