I agree with the thought that people are really making a bit too much out of JMM-Pac III in regard to a potential Floyd-Pac fight. If I were a Pacquiao supporter going into a May-Pac matchup, I would be worried about several things I noticed in this last fight.
JMM was able to successfully fend off Pacquiao quite easily while planted.
Pacquiao would continually run into the more stationary JMM, get countered and then JMM would start using head movement and footwork. This effectively nullified the majority of Pacquiao's devastating combos. Floyd is a master of baiting in this manner (no pun intended).
Leaping from the canvas, missing 4 shots, getting countered twice, then finally landing a glancing blow or two really doesn't make for effective boxing in my opinion. This manner of attack also often leaves Manny quite off balance and open, his amazing footwork and hand speed can often cover these tactical errors, but again errors like that are what Mayweather capitalizes on.
Now as a Mayweather supporter this is what I would still have concerns over regarding a potential May-Pac fight:
Floyd can fight out of the high guard, but he has natural muscle memory to fall into the Philly shell. Pacquiao's lateral movement and hand speed will be able to exploit errors like this. Not so much through careful selection, but more through that Pacquiao killer instinct we have seen in the past.
I think this is still going to be an amazing fight and I wouldn't be surprised to see both fighters hit the canvas at some point. I do think Floyd eventually figures out and frustrates Pacquiao to the point where he starts to clearly take over the fight in the late rounds.
I really still want this fight to be made, but I am always the optimist.
pre, dont overlook/underestimate that lead jab to the body by Floyd...ive seen that single punch alone stall MANY opponents
the JMM fight, PAC fought a dumbass game plan...can't do that against Floyd...it would have to be a balls to the wall effort...more of the old PAC as far as aggression and fire
yeah i agree...pac has to infuse more strategy in his fight plan to improve his chances against floyd. against jmm he just did the same mistake over and over again. i put some of the blame on roach...he relied too much on pac's explosiveness.
as a pac fan i favor floyd, if i were pac's team i'd study leonard vs mayweather senior he shows how to handle that that shoulder roll defense the problem is pac fights nothing like leonard
lol, u seriously think manny wont get hit with floyd's lead right all nite just like he did against jmm?? that is the punch from jmm that had pac at a loss. it always has. nothing will change. fu saying hes gonna need both doesnt help your argument because just about everyone in the world considers him the best at both. well except for pac fans who look for hope.
i'm not looking for hope dumbass...did you even read my opening post? i am not giving pac more chances against floyd than he did against jmm but i'm not like most of you who are already rejoicing as if the fight has already happened and floyd embarassed pac.
Now don't get me wrong because I'm not saying that Pac has better chances against Floyd than against JMM. All I'm saying is JMM posed a different problem to pac than what Floyd can cause. And I have no problem if people will say Pac will have bigger problems against Floyd than against JMM but you can't base it off from what you saw in a Pac-JMM fight.
repost for people who are already accusing me of hating on floyd
Responding with 1 punch at a time is not going to cut it against a fighter like Pac. Like i've stated in several threads.....Pac will win rounds on workrate alone whether he's punching Floyd's arms, shoulders, elbows, etc. Floyd will have to turn it up in order to compete. He's not going to win rounds throwing 20 punches a round.
When has Floyd ever threw 20 punches per round in a whole fight? Has Floyd ever threw 240 punches in an entire fight that lasted for 12 rounds? When Floyd counter with one punch, he usually does so to change his opponent/s balance or disrupt their movements. Floyd's favorite set up counter-punches are his left hook and straight right hand. Manny's constant in and out ambush attacks jumpy style may give Floyd all he can handle, but let's not act like Floyd is the type of Boxer to get hit by the same type of punches in a whole fight.
Just because Marquez gives Pacquaio problems doesn't automatically mean Mayweather will.
But, the reason Marquez gives Pacquaio problems, being a counter puncher, who attempts to make Pac miss and make him pay, wait for opportunities to strike, gives the idea that Mayweather is also a bad match up for Pacquaio.
It seems that Pacquaio's glaring weaknesses are in corrleation with Mayweather's overwhelming strengths.

Another problem is Mayweather Sr and Mayweather Jr are two different animals.
It would be like Mayweather watching tapes of Bobby Pacquaio.
And, just because Mayweather Sr uses the sholder roll defense and Leonard penetrated that defense it doesn't necessarily mean that that's the way it can be penetrated.
If that was the case than any Mayweather Jr opponent would just have to watch tapes of Ian Napa and they would beat him.
