  • Hopkins realized that if he stopped moving at all he was a sitting duck.

His legs would have started to get tired around the 4th and the clinching would have been unbearable. Dawson the more nard slows down the more chad would peck away. Nard knew he hadnt a chance in hell.

I think nard was the victim of his own ego. He goes into many fights knowing hes the underdog and has a chip on his shoulder. After all the recent accolades I think he "Gassed himself" into thinking he could do more than he really could. That reality hit him hard last night.

Yeah, because Hopkins' clearly ran out of gas after dancing circles around Jean Pascal for 24 rounds.

Pascal wasnt a really punch threat to nard in the sense that he wouldnt see the punches coming, nard didnt do nearly as much dancing then as he did last night.

Chad throws combos if you dont move and keeps his distance, whereas pascal throws wide looping telegraphed punches so even if you stand in front of him you have time to move.

        • I think Hopkins did a pretty good job making Dawson look like total shit prior to the ending. He seemed to see what Chad was doing pretty good from where I was sitting. He was only caught with that one good left in the first round, but he also landed a great right hand lead of his own in the same rouond.

I hope this gets overturned and Hopkins denies Dawson the rematch, he showed a serious lack of class and looked like a cry baby.
lack of class, are you ******ed ? hopkins is one of the dirtiest boxers alive, that ex convict got what he deserved last night. karma is a mean b!tch, whenever hopkins cheats it's ok but now that the shoe is in the other foot his wannabe gangasta fan boys wanna cry

I believe he did it in retaliation, but even if what you say is correct, there is a difference between that and "if a fighter fouls another, prompting the second fighter to retaliate by fouling the first, and the first fighter is injured and can't continue, the second fighter's fouls, being deemed retaliatory, shall be regarded as legal maneuvers."

I understand your argument, and I don't begrudge you raising the point, but I do strongly disagree.
The ruling which was handed down by the referee was winner by way of Technical Knock Out Chad Dawson. I agree that the assessment I laid out was not entirely the rationalization behind Pat Russell's decision, because he has yet to give an explanation behind his ruling. However from the video, Hopkins was clearly injured by attempting to hold and lay his body behind Dawson's neck. This was why Dawson retaliated and tossed Bernard to the canvass. If Hopkins never attempted lay on Chad's head, then he would have never been injured and tossed to the canvass in the first place. This is what the referee saw and that is why he didn't give Bernard the typical five minutes time alotted to recover from an injury due to a foul; Because in his judgement Hopkins was more at fault. He believed he deliberately provoked Dawson's response towards him.

I agree that Hopkins is a dirty fighter, and was fouling, but Dawson's eruption was pretty disgusting to me. Him throwing Hopkins to the canvas was retaliation, but was also a loss of composure on his part, imo, and this carried over to after the fight. Just my impression, but I found Dawson's conduct nothing short of disgraceful.

The key word here is "retaliated", as it is this word which indicates the reality of Dawson fouling Hopkins back. This is also what I discussed in my prior post. What is more, I do not feel that there is such a clear case that Hopkins was engaged in fouling at that very moment, but it is actually irrelevant if he was, because what Dawson did was clearly a foul (whether in retaliation, or not, makes no difference. If fighter A lowblows fighter B, and fighter B retaliates, dropping fighter A with a lowblow, this doesn't mean that the ref is to begin counting to 10.) To reiterate, if Dawson acted in retaliation (which imo he clearly did, and which you also suggested in your post), this implies that he fouled, irregardless.

And the ruling in the ring was that there was no foul, which is very different from the scenario which you laid out. In effect, the ruling was that Hopkins dived out of the ring on his own strength (or so it seemed). This is obviously not what happened.

He quit, there was nothing that prevented him from getting up except for himself its as if he took a knee, he tried to win by DQ, but it backfired. the man simply quit.
