But if he does beat Taylor... I think he should just retire anyway. He could take the winner of Calzaghe vs Lacy though?
But I can't see him beating either of them.Comment

Originally posted by Alesteyou don\'t think he\'s the greatest, then who is. i think hopkins is better then monzon, hagler or anyone else. 20 straight title defenses.
Hagler fought better competition than HOpkins did.
Monzon was more dominant than Hopkins. Through Monzon's career nobody had any doubt who the best middleweight was. Even guys who Monzon destroyed like Nino Benvenuti were better fighters than any opponent Hopkins had short of Tito.
The best middleweights are a tie between Sugar Ray Robinson and Harry Greb.
Given Greb's success against bigger great fighters like Tommy Gibbons, Tommy Loughran and Gene Tunney.....I would have to give the edge to Harry Greb.Comment

Originally posted by kbpoetreewe got time for this again Anorak...lol, actually tho i had DLH winning that fight, thought he looked good. and sure hopkins runs round the ring for a few minutes, thats why he's been unbeatable he takes his time, figures out his opponent then attacks, pure genius if u ask me..hell he even waits till like round 4 to start not such a bad thing i at least get to watch 4rounds on a pay for view.
He starts so slow that you know you'll get at least four rounds out of PPV. I like that one!
Seriously though, I can't remember a round where he engaged against the Nuff Tumper. It was just hit and run all night. Not escapology... hit and run.Comment

Originally posted by kbpoetreehmmm i'm not disagreeing with your choice of great middleweights, but to compare people from this age to another as far as opponent comparison is irrelevant unless they face each other, as times change so do styles and even rules, Greb was great, but as i said times change, we are now bigger and stronger due to technology
Why else do you think the average height of middleweights before the 1950s was 5'7. While the average weight of a middleweight today is 5'11? This is not due to technology as you said.Comment

Oscar De La Hoya 1st won a World title at Super-featherweight. De La Hoya was so far out of his weight class @ middleweight, he even (realistically) lost his 1st fight at middleweight to Felix Sturm because of it.
And the size difference between De La Hoya and Hopkins in the ring was laughable.Comment
