He was dominating Maidana in the early parts of that fight. Yes he comes forward, and yes he needs to engage but let's not say ridiculous stuff like "Ortiz is a mediocre boxer" he has a long amateur pedigree and is a very good boxer. His problem is he relies on his power a little too much and shows zero patience at times.

Let's be real here, he QUIT vs Maidana, he wasn't outboxed or out slugged, he just gave up because he had never faced adversity in his life and QUIT.

Bert is a much better boxer than Maidana and if he can get up from berto's shots and avoid his speed, he can with Maidana. Just because a boxer loses once, it isn't the end all of everything. Ortiz is young, he learned a valuable lesson and came back, let's give him his just due.
Dude, are you serious? Ortiz was totally out slugged by Maidana. He was getting his ass seriously beat in the 6th.

The reason Ortiz quit was because he would've been knocked out, and he knew it. Honestly, it was probably the right decision, but he shouldn't have said all the stuff he did in the post fight.

But, seriously, Maidana put the hurt on Ortiz, nobody just quits. They quit because they can't win. And Ortiz was hurt BADLY.

And yes, relatively speaking, Ortiz is a solid, yet unremarkable boxer. He does have size, speed, and power. And he's pretty accurate too.

He was getting hit by Maidana yes but he quit because he didn't want to get hit anymore. I never saw Ortiz seriously hurt in that fight, even at the end he just walked over to the corner and sort of motioned he wanted out.

Like I said, you guys can bring up the past and hold Victor to that fight for the rest of his career but let me bring reality to you, neither Ortiz or Khan's careers will be defined by their losses no matter how hard you guys try to do it.

It's in the past, Ortiz proved himself with Berto and he is in a much better and bigger place.

I'm not saying Ortiz's lose will define him.

But, the guys was seriously beat up by Maidana. Did you not see his face? And just watch the sixth again, Ortiz fell to the ground just trying to escape Maidana, when he wasn't even hit. That's when he quit.

He quit when he wasn't even hit, because thats how badly he was hurt. Maidana is a murderous puncher, he might be the hardest p4p in boxing. There is no shame in Ortiz losing to him.

Ortiz is a dude who trades blows with dudes. Thats his style of fighting. Hopefully, he has a long and prosperous career, it's certainly possible.

Sorry dude you must be completely blacked out. 7:40 of this clip and on he is hurt badly, and his corner even says that they are going to stop the fight. The he comes out in the 6th with no legs and he is all over the place.

Yes he quit, I said this already.

Also, your making Ortiz out to be a slugger, he's not. He's a good boxer, he is just aggressive and loves to come forward.

Again, Maidana beat him and made him quit I just think you guys are hanging the kids entire career on that. It's not fair and I believe Ortiz is a much different fighter now. If they ever fight again, I will bet ALL my points Ortiz beats his ass and it won't even be close.

Exactly, what I was saying. Well not exactly, but very close.

Maidana just fell to the ground, because his legs were gone, due to the severe beating he took. Ortiz was BADLY hurt. Ortiz lost to Maidana. There is no shame in that. But, lets not rewrite history and say Ortiz didn't get his ass kicked, because he did.

Ortiz was going to be koed, thats why he quit. But Ortiz has come back from that with his win over Berto. I like Ortiz a lot, he gives us exciting fights, and wish him luck. But, he doesn't have great boxing skills, but he is still a beast that is a threat to anyone he faces.

Its not about discrediting Ortiz(unless you are an Ortiz hater)but about seeing that the dude is flawed and needs to grow a lot more then he has..He did a great job in the Berto fight but I really did not see improvement in his skill..He showed. Better will but it not that hard when ya opponent lays on the ropes with his hands up..Ill say great win for Ortiz over Berto, but I wanna see him fight another fighter before I say forget the Maidana or Peterson fights..Karass or Jones would be a great measuring stick tbh,Berto was unproving and tbh I have never been impressed by Berto at all..

Again, not taking anything from Maidana he won but do fighters never win rematches to fighters they lost to?

I mean, Ortiz is now a bum and avg boxer and nothing special because of that fight. Yet Maidana was handled by a one eyed, past his prime 2 weight class lower fighter in Morales....but he's a much better fighter.

Keep sleeping on Ortiz, I will pick him over Khan and most at 140 to 147 with the exception of Pac and Mayweather but there's no shame in that.
