Re watched Berto vs Ortiz...

Exactly. Ortiz wins by pressuring, and using his superior physical assets and bigger size. The guy has speed and power.Ortiz style is pressure he knows to only come forward and put pressure..Against a fighter like Maidana this is just right up. Maidanas ally..And every time I seen Ortiz box it lefta bad taste in my mouth..He does not have passion and that would be another problem against a fighter like Maidana..I just really can't see howOrtiz wins this fight tbh..
I totally agree with the JMM Pac comparsion...
But Ortiz is a flat out mediocre boxer.
And lets stop this myth that Ortiz could've beat Maidana if he fought smarter. Ortiz fought the only way he knows how. The only way for Ortiz to beat Maidana is to hurt him.
Ortiz does not have the skills or know how to evade Maidana, he has to engage him, thats the basis of his whole style. That is why Ortiz lost, and why he would lose again to Maidana.
And remember, Ortiz did try to evade Maidana, and got his ass kicked whenever he went on the back foot.Last edited by Froghead99; 08-10-2011, 08:26 AM.Comment

See the bold, I've been talking about that combination for a while and Floyd hasn't faced a southpaw who throws a better right hook right uppercut. To avoid it though Floyd can NOT back into the ropes, he's gonna have to keep this in the middle of the ring, but Ortiz is known to charge guys, push em. We'll see....Just a couple of observations that I wanna put up for discussion for anyone who cares:
1. Berto needs a new trainer, he was telling Andre to circle the wrong way against a southpaw, shouldn't you be trying to get AWAY from the power left hand of a southy? Berto was being told to move TOWARDS it....
2. Ortiz is ALOT faster than what people think, he moves quick on his feet for a big dude and also lets the combos fly with speed ASWELL as his talked about power (the right uppercut, right hook straight left combo will be trouble for Floyd in their fight).
3. If Ortiz and Maidana have part 2, Victor ****s Marcos and sends him home with a new vagina torn out of his flesh.
4. When Mayweather vs Ortiz fight, Floyd will NOT back up. I'm willing to bet my house that Floyd will go to Ortiz and fight him on the inside. It's the only times in the Berto fight that Victor looked out of depth was when Andre took it to Victor, plus we saw what Rene did to him in their fight. I can't see Floyd stopping him though, he will do a Juan Manuel type fight and get some rounds under his belt just to keep active.
Anyone disagree with any of these, please feel free to fight you corner!Comment

He was dominating Maidana in the early parts of that fight. Yes he comes forward, and yes he needs to engage but let's not say ridiculous stuff like "Ortiz is a mediocre boxer" he has a long amateur pedigree and is a very good boxer. His problem is he relies on his power a little too much and shows zero patience at times.
Let's be real here, he QUIT vs Maidana, he wasn't outboxed or out slugged, he just gave up because he had never faced adversity in his life and QUIT.
Bert is a much better boxer than Maidana and if he can get up from berto's shots and avoid his speed, he can with Maidana. Just because a boxer loses once, it isn't the end all of everything. Ortiz is young, he learned a valuable lesson and came back, let's give him his just due.Comment

Berto appeared chinny and never really recovered from that first round. Every other shot by Ortiz appeared to stun Berto.
Berto's defense looked suspect in that fight and he was unsure of himself throughout the fight.
Ortiz was a man on a mission and Berto paid for it. The bad news in all of this for Ortiz is that his defense is quite suspect. When Berto tried to hit Ortiz, HE DID! Ortiz had the same problem with some of the other fighters.
So imagine someone with way better defense such as Floyd .... Floyd more than likely would not get hit as clean as Berto did.
So it would be a case of Ortiz not being as effective offensively and Floyd putting out just enough offense to win the fight.
Ortiz better work on his defense big time and have several plans offensively as well!Comment

Agree with this Berto whilst had good power simply did not throw enough shots after he was hurt in the first allowing Ortiz to tee off.I agree with most of ya breakdown, esp on the May Ortiz fight..I don't agree with you with a Maidana Ortiz rematch tho..I believe anyone who exchanges with Ortiz and can get past his power beats him..Ortiz just does not like being hit and can't fight going backwards to save his life..He would lose again to Maidana imo in a very similar fashion..Comment

This post made me think back to the "FAce off" where floyd said he is gonna come forward. Floyd may be alot of things but dumb isn't one of them. He knows Ortiz strengths and weaknesses. He also knows if Vic hits him like Shane did its gonna be sleepy time.See the bold, I've been talking about that combination for a while and Floyd hasn't faced a southpaw who throws a better right hook right uppercut. Yep, he even described Amir Khan as a bouncy fighter, which is the perfect description of him. On the real, Floyd has most of these guys analyzed.Comment

If you listen to Roger (about BOXING only and NOTHING else) you see where he gets it from. All the antics and BS makes you forget that floyd's understanding of the game is superior.Comment
