How Does Martinez Matchup In These 10 Big Fights?

Boxrec stats? lol. Walt no really they are about the same size.
Martinez's jab is average and lazy but fast. Just because he was fighting a guy without the skillset to time it doesnt mean it will work vs. Mayweather. I like The Razor but lets face facts hes a one trick pony with poor footwork.
Bodyshots slow down anyone. Martinez will tell you that. One of the biggest myths going riht now is that Floyd has no pop. He does. Ask Shane Mosley, a guy who I said that Floyd would hurt several times and everyone gave me hellf or it. Fight night Floyd hurts him to the head and body throughout the fight.
Mayweather has more than enough pop in his punches not mention the timing and accuracy to place some nasty body shots on Martinez. Just like he does every southpaw he faces. He overkills the body work. Sharmba was stoped to the body. Corley was ripped up to the body. Judahs body got hammered and watch how he goes to the body more than he would against a righty when he fights Ortiz. He attacks southpaws to the body mainly because of the stance its the punch he finds easier to place. Whether the jab to the body or a hook tot he body more so the hook because the jab to the body can make you get caught with a counter hook like Judah landed.
He can slow him down with bodyshots He can slow him down with feints and headmovement and most of all just stepping through the ropes will slow him down. Against Floyd he will have to think like I mentioned before if you make a guy as dynamic as Sergio have to think then you just handicapped that guy. Martinez is at his best when he has the freedom to do what he wants to do against Mayweather that wont be there. Walt Im telling you Sergio is in for a world of trouble against Mayweather.
floyd's power translated to 135, 140, and a little bit to 147...
it's not translating vs a full blown mw, even at 154 (if that's where the fight actually takes place).Comment

His jab is lazy and can be timed. Heck even Kelly Pavlik and Paul Williams started timing that jab. I dont like this match up at all for Martinez, against Mayweather he would the hardest time hes ever had landing clean. That in itself makes it an uphill battle. Martinez is fast for a middleweight but hes not as fast or as quick as Mayweather.
Npw am I saying Martinez wont have his spots? No. He will especially early for the first 4 rounds or so until Floyd starts place those bodyshots and figure him out. But after that I think its target practice.Comment

Hes the same size as Oscar De LeHoya almost identical. Floyd was actually stronger than Oscar in that fight as Oscar admitted post fight. Martinez is skillful and thats what makes his chances dwindle. Hed actually try to outbox Mayweather.

have you even met either guy?
if so you would know just how off this statement is
Oscar has a slight build with rather skinny arms
Sergio is built solid with a wider frame than Oscar.
totally different size wise no matter how much you want to think height=sizeComment

Oscar wasn't a middleweight. His strength isn't the same as Martinez's. Martinez won't want to clinch anyway, he will be moving and having Floyd chase him, which Floyd can do but also give Martinez the upper hand in initiating clinches and controlling them. Martinez has better footspeed at this point, I guarantee that, he can move better at this point, his handspeed is close enough to Floyd's that the difference won't mean much. We're not talking Floyd from 2005 here.
I dont think Martinez is very strong at all. He looks the part with his muscles but hes not that strong of a fighter. Moving from what? Floyd wont chase him. Hes not an amateur. If he has to he walk at Martinez and cut the ring off. Outside of a prime Cotto no one cuts the ring off better than Floyd right now. If a clinch is initiated it will be Mayweather pinning Martinezs arm down and sneaking in bdy pucnhes until they reset.
Martinez has good footspeed for a middleweight. But that doesnt means its faster than Mayweathers. Freddie Roach opened up a can of worms or what I like to all a can of non sense when he said Floyds "legs are gone". There not.
Again. Martinez is fast fr a Middleweight but hes not faster than Floyd, Pac, Khan or even Berto. Hes just not. Martinez can string his punches better at high speeds but his single shots are way slower than Floyds and it wil be very noticeable imo.
Martinez can use a good jab. He may not do so every fight, but clearly he showed he has one against Dzinziruk. He would have problems getting hit, that much is obvious. Martinez is not hard to hit and Mayweather would find openings. Martinez's tendency to slow down in the middle of the fight could cost him big as well. Floyd's power though is not power that would break Martinez down though, if Pavlik and Paul Williams don't break him down with the way they landed Floyd certainly isn't.
I agree with the red parts. Pavlik and Williams didnt commit to thowing body punches. They also arent as good of body punchers as far as placement and timing like Maywetaher is. Trust me Im not saying that will be the bread and butter and key to victory but it will be a big big factor in slowing those legs down. A good bodyshot even from Paulie Malinagii can sting you.
I am in no way saying Floyd is a long shot to win this fight. It's 50-50, or very close IMO. Saying Floyd dominates Martinez is crazy, short of Martinez for some reason being drained at 154 which doesn't seem reasonable.Comment

I dont see the point on those questions. They would be fighting at 154 Pounds.
A 165 Martinez is not matching a 152 Pound Floyd in ANY of those categories. Not one.
And Walt again. Juts because a fighter throws a jab does not mean that its a good one. You ever seen Shanes Mosleys jab? Yeah its terrible, "Dizzy" is not Mayweather.
you think floyd will come in at 152 if they fight at 154 on fight night?
so now you're comparing shane's jab to this one?
you can't be serious. also, not how sergio DID use his jab to set up offense, like you've claimed he doesn't do.

Ive met Oscar mind you it was several years ago and he wast in fight shape. However Im talking about same size in general. Height and reach. How wide the guys is or skinny his arms wouldnt really play a role in the fight imo. Thats all I was saying. I didnt mean build or frame.Comment

Im not comparing their jabs Im just saying that just because a fighter uses his jab in spurts doesnt mean its a good jab.
Walt again I seen the fight. It was a good scrap that I enjoyed. But when you have a guy as limited defensively and as limited with his footspeed as The Razor is a guy like Martinez shouldve did what he did and had no problems.
I dont get why that surprised people. I said Paul Williams would do the same thing. Jab the hell out of Dzizniruk. Hes open for it and doesnt have the workrate to make come from behind points lead which is why I always predicted Paul to beat him.Comment

Martinez is naturally bigger than Oscar who may be a tad taller and leaner. Martinez is mean and in shape at 160 while Oscar was a fat **** in that division when he fought Sturm, who pushed him around like a little boy. Martinez is much stronger than Oscar and more powerful as well.
Martinez' jab isn't lazy at all although it can be timed. If you think Martinez would have a tough time landing then what about Floyd, who would have to walk into the lion's den to get his **** off. And unlike an Oscar, Martinez is powerful and doesn't have stamina problems. Put it this way, Martinez is world's ahead of anyone Floyd has ever fought at 147 and above.
This isn't Zab Judah. And even Zab caught Floyd coming in once or twice. If Floyd wishes to land to the body he better prepare his neck for some head-turning blows.
With the jab I dissagree. Its a punch he rather not throw but will throw if he has to. Against a guy like Dinziruk who doesnt have head movement or footspeed. It made his jab look lke Winky Wrights. Mayweather will be a different beast as Oscar found out. He had sucess early with the jab but once Floyd started tming Oscar his jab was pretty much useless.
See I think Martinez would be moving away and trying to outbox Floyd and set him up. See I dont think Martinez would fight Floyd real aggressively so that Lions den would be more like a daycare center with Sergios hands down throwing jabs from his hip. Zab was catching Floyd because he was much faster than Mayweather. I always thought P4P Judah was one of the fastest fighters I have ever seen. Martinez wont have the luxury of being faster than Mayweater in my opniion. You make some great points. One I didnt think off is the fact that youre right Martinez will be there for 12 rounds with all his wind.Comment
