This one needs all the help it can get. 900K-1 mil buys tops with all the extra promotions. Would've done 800K otherwise.
I think you are wrong. HBO is trying to maximize the earnings from a floyd fight because he doesn't fight often anymore and ARum may take manny and cotto to showtime.

That's possible, but I'm just looking at this on a one fight basis. I just don't see how this is a more attractive fight than Mayweather-Hatton and Ortiz is not anywhere near JMM's league in terms of name recognition, accomplishments, etc. So I don't see how Mayweather-Ortiz draws more people in than either of those fights. There's a reason GBP is trying to convince the very popular Canelo to hop on the card, they think he would bring in big buys from Mexican fans especially considering it'll be on/near the Mexican Independence Day. But Canelo doesn't seem thrilled about the idea of being a lead-in fight, especially since he wouldn't get a taste of all the buys he brought in. They realize that selling this fight the usual way- a few press cons and a 24/7 wouldn't get more buys than either Mayweather-Hatton or Marquez, so they are trying to go all out.

IMO, that's good enough for 900-1mil buys, anything beyond that would be a nice surprise. Doubt this many people will show up to support Victor Ortiz at the weigh in:

I don't think there's even that many people in Kansas

Little experiment for you- talk to your friends/co-workers/etc who follow sports and ask them to tell you all they know about Victor Ortiz, then let me know what they say.

With Mayweather, Canelo and Erik Morales on the same card this does over 1.5 million PPV buys easy

they have to...they're giving floyd a big guaranteed money so they need to have a good ppv number in order for hbo and golden boy to earn profit. if it's true that floyd is taking $40 milion guarantee, it takes 1 million ppv (or more) for hbo and golden boy to break even. if they go all out in promotions, it will cost them more. for them to have a good profit, ppv should be at least 1.5 million...1.2 million will be a disappointment.

Given?? You must be smoking crack. Those people you mentioned, the hard working mexicans who wants to make a decent living by their hard labor, they have worked hard for it. You did NOT GIVE THEM ****!!! They WORKED for it! Floyd $40mil vs Ortiz $2mil? That is just ******ed. Ortiz is a quitter, and is a sacrificial lamb. Mexicans have every right to BOYCOTT this fight!!

Just like it did for Mayweather vs. Mosley.

The biggest, most expensive promotion in recent history for only 1.4m PPV's.

When Mayweather-Ortiz does worse or about the same, Schaefer's response:

Really you're going to use Mayweather vs Mosley as some kind of example of his words biting him in his ass? when most were surprised it did what it did. The fight was seen as a huge success.
