There's a reason GBP is trying to convince the very popular Canelo to hop on the card, they think he would bring in big buys from Mexican fans especially considering it'll be on/near the Mexican Independence Day. But Canelo doesn't seem thrilled about the idea of being a lead-in fight, especially since he wouldn't get a taste of all the buys he brought in. They realize that selling this fight the usual way- a few press cons and a 24/7 wouldn't get more buys than either Mayweather-Hatton or Marquez, so they are trying to go all out.

IMO, that's good enough for 900-1mil buys, anything beyond that would be a nice surprise. Doubt this many people will show up to support Victor Ortiz at the weigh in:

I don't think there's even that many people in Kansas

Little experiment for you- talk to your friends/co-workers/etc who follow sports and ask them to tell you all they know about Victor Ortiz, then let me know what they say.
Again Mayweather at this point just like Pac will do a mil by themselves. IMO they're wanting to bring in Canelo because yes it will draw a few more buys but it will also put him in the spot light because again, its Floyd Mayweather the biggest draw in boxing period. "Number's don't lie", people do.

HBO should go all out because this will probably be Mayweather's only fight this year and they will take full advantage of the situation. Not to mention Mayweather I'm sure has his own standards of reaching a PPV goal to remain the top draw for any future negotiations with anyone including Pac who has yet to outsell him even when fighting the same fighters.

Not only that HBO going all out is good for boxing. They NEED to expand and reach the general public with other networks. IMO they NEED to invest in $PIKE TV among other cable channels and more importantly local channels regardless of who's fighting.

Also, GBP is building Canelo in the US so he can fight floyd down the road, after Manny (maybe) and Khan (definitely).

Maybe but I hope not. Neither Canelo or Mayweather need each other. IMO Floyd would utterly and completely just technically destroy him, toy with him and embarrass him in the matter of respectfully speaking Gatti (RIP) was handled. On a side note, Its funny that many of Floyd haters said he wasn't ready for Gatti and was "too small" for him back in 2006. The Mayweather hater extremist (******s) even said Floyd was scared of Gatti. Somethings just never change.

Anyway Mayweather has other fighters who are currently ready to fight. Canelo is not ready and wont be ready for a fighter like Mayweather for quit awhile IMO.

Floyd could end his career fighting Manny, khan or Cooto (khan because of GBP), and Canelo and make close too or lil more than $150 mil (both fighting and through promotions). Then he will really retire.

Ortiz is to green, he doesn't have what it takes to beat Mayweather, all hispanics should boycott fight cause they more lawns and money tight. That's all you hear on these posts. I am Mexican and I think this is a great fight. The moment this was signed I have respect to both fighters. Mayweather taking on real competitioninstead of a worn out name and ortiz stepping up. He is a champion and champions fight the best.

I will be buying and watching this fight. As I do for any fight. Im a boxing fan. After all it is only 60 and if money is tight then you could go in with others to watch the best fight. Which many will do I bet. This does big numbers on ppv.

$40 million is a small price to pay for what America has already given you.

I see this is an a opportunity for Ortiz; a win/win situation. Everyone wants a shot at May/Pac and he got it. If Ortiz pulls off the upset and wins, he becomes an instant draw, gets a lucrative shot at Pac and will become the posterboy for success. If he loses, he still gains worlwide exposure, experience against arguably the pound for pound best, plus few will discredit him for a loss against mayweather; not to mention he becomes a millionaire. This is one of the best things that could have happened to him...
You make some very valid points, especially because Ortiz does have a slight chance of upsetting Mayweather; however, the chances are just that: slim (as I, along with many other people, don't think Ortiz is ready for such a step up). What I find interesting is that Ortiz is only expected to make $2 million.

And, I'm asking all my Hispanic/Latino people not to buy this fight, either; no matter how enticed you may be to see Ortiz and/or Saul Alvarez fight (Saul will be on undercard). It may sound racist or intolerant or even prejudice, and for that I apologize (as that is not my intention); however, it's time for the promoters to stop taking advantage of our passion/pastime by trying to fool us into buying a fight by simply putting a Latino fighter on the card. Especially when one fighter is reported to make $40 million and the Hispanic fighter is reported to only make about $2 million... I will not be contributing to that. Those of you who feel the same way, join me! Those of you who don't, don't.
STFU, you *******s with multiple accounts! Seriously, get a life!

You guys are a joke and just hating AGAIN because "Money" is outdoing Pac in terms of fighting a higher quality opponent and future PPV buys (COUNT ON IT). This fight will outdo Pac's highest PPV count against DLH AND IT JUST IS KILLING THE PACTERDS BECAUSE THEY KNOW IT .

Stop being so bitter *******s. Quit acting like little envious ho's and just Floyd his due credit. You guys ain't fooling nobody. REAL fight fans know this fight is legit.

It was a ridiculous post. If you don't want to watch a fight then don't but begging others to boycott the fight was just pathetic. If the guy really is a Latino then he is basically f**king over one of his own people. I'm pretty sure ortiz will be getting a percentage of the ppv money after all. If the guy thinks Ortiz is getting a bad deal you would think he would be getting behind Ortiz and asking his Latino/Hispanic people to buy the fight so that Ortiz would get more money. A sad sad post indeed
