It's definitely going to be difficult. Nonetheless, it's possible I suppose.

Considering his style, he going to have to catch him relatively early in order to get his respect and keep Mayweather respectful and in the pocket as much as possible.

He'll have to utilize the decent jab that he DOES have. Use it to get in close and potentially set up fight-changing shots. Once he's inside, he needs to go to the body, to take some speed and power away from Mayweather. Then, he needs to back away and reset.

His defense has to be better than it was in the Berto fight. He needs to be able to at the very least avoid some of the bigger shots that Floyd throws.

If he's not able to get inside on a regular basis, he needs to push the action, but keep the rounds close. This will make the judges feel that he is pushing the action and still holding his own. Then, flurry towards the end of the round and try to steal some of them. He'll need to time the speed of Floyd and use the pot-shotting against him, as well.

If he can time him, go in and out with a jab then a body attack and get his respect early, he has a chance. Make it ugly at times. Otherwise, it'll be a fun while it lasts blowout at the hands of Mayweather.

Simply what Floyd's 41 previous opponents have tried to do. Beat him to the punch if he can.

I think that's another piece to the puzzle. If Ortiz can make Floyd respect his jab by getting off first. Then he can throw in feints which will also help him get inside or at least pause Mayweather.

I think we all have to understand that Mayweather foundation is built upon skill and i think the assessment of trying to get in involved in a brawl is sound but not likely. It has to be a muddy match part brawl part boxing with his jab.

Can the coincidence you're referring to be interpreted more as Floyd wanting to counter punch Corley before Corley gets to the inside instead of actually wanting to work on the inside?
The hardest knockdown Floyd gave Corley happened all on the inside. It was all inside work.

Floyd has no problem with the southpaw right if he's using the shoulder roll. It's the southpaw left that's tricky if he's in shoulder roll.

Str8 left hand is a very different punch than a jab. Str8s and crosses require more commitment to throw than jabs, so there's a bigger window of opportunity to be countered.

Ortiz doesn't have the kind of jab that can **** with Floyd.

This is how many jabs even manage to land on Floyd.

Zab 2 a round, and he actually has a decent leftie jab.

Oscar, ATG jab, could only get 3.33 a round.

A textbook fighter like Juan Marquez was down to only 1.75.

Ortiz doesn't even have a great jab. Here's Floyd's favorite counter to establish first against southpaws.

Ortiz needs to create openings to counter punch a counter-puncher with feints. Let Mayweather taste whatever power he has and see how he handles body shots.

Ortiz leaves himself open a lot and sticks his head out like a giraffe when throwing more than two punch combinations. He needs to tuck in his chin before Mayweather rings his bell all night. Pause.

Like anyone not named Pacquiao, Martinez or Williams, Ortiz has two chances, little and none. I don't see Floyd stopping him, but I can see Victor getting frustrated enough that he quits again.

He needs to get very lucky. I don't see any chance at all of a win. Unless Floyd makes a huge mistake a gets tagged with something huge.
