Originally posted by JUYJUYLennox Lewis?? No way. He was losing every round to Frank Bruno before a lucky punch, clearly lost to Ray Mercer, knocked out by Oliver McCall, knocked out by Hasim Rahman, and made his name by beating up an ancient Holyfield and a very, very ancient Tyson, and he even lost the second fight against the washed up Holyfield and was losing against Klitschko.
McCall and Rahman are very ordinary fighters who knocked out Lewis, and Tyson was in better shape against Williams and McBride than he was against Lewis.
In terms of talent and cutting edge, Lewis was just not in the same class as the guys on my list. Patterson's speed and skills make Lewis look like a sack of ****.
Holmes would have had no difficulty catching Lewis with his telephone pole jab. Although Lewis had a good jab as well, a few good ones from Holmes would have had him dazed by the middle rounds.Comment

Here we go.....
Holyfield lost the trilogy with Bowe, then beat a washed up Tyson, and then proceeded to look very very ordinary against everyone else he ever fought.
What/who eactley did Holyfield beat (and beat well) to justify his god like rating amongst the americans?(thats not a racist opinion just the way i see it)Comment

He doesn't have to win big, he can lose a close fight and still look good in our eyes. Perhaps that is why he is in such high regard among boxing fans.Comment

I have a lot of respect for you guys over the pond, and as you see much more boxing than us in the uk your opinions must be respected.
BUT if heart and the ability to go to war is all thats needed then Arturo Gatti etc should be in the list for 140lbs.
No?, didnt think so.Comment

EDIT : I didn't think Gatti was all that, either. Americans love drama. And Gatti has it in spades.Comment

[[[How do you rate Jack Johnson? Talented, great record (discounting thrown fights).]]]
=========================
What thrown fights? Johnson never threw a fight in his life. He lied about throwing the Willard fight, and quit a few fights later in his career when he was getting a beating. And no, I don't rate Johnson highly. The MAN in his era was Sam Langford. Now Sam had to wear the cuffs in some fights in attempt to set up rematches. Sam fought from lightweight all the way up to the heavys and never received a single title shot in spite of having more KOs than JackJohnson had fights.Comment
