Why wasn't Kirkland given the same chance JMM got vs. Pac??

He did get the same chance; then he got put on ***** street and the ref had to stop in.
JMM never looked hurt, his legs never went away. He had his senses about him after every KD and that's why Cortez let it continue. He touched the canvas, but mentally and physically he was still there.
Kirkland was hurt bad; his legs were gone. Punches that weren't even landing flush were wobbling him. He downright collapsed after that last punch. Cortez definitely did the right thing. Ann wolfe and Floyd Sr agreed with the stoppage, among others.
The two situations are as different as night and day.Comment

I feel bad for James, I think it's natural for an undefeated fighter to lash out the way he did. In his mind he legitimately believed he was still in fight and he very well could have but he didn't give himself the opportunity by fighting so reckless and falling down after being dropped by them short left hand shots from Ishida.I finally got to see the Kirkland stoppage over the weekend and it was HORRIBLE.
Joe Cortez is still one of the worst refs I've ever seen.
There was no three knockdown rule and it was obvious Kirkland was ready and able to fight. He should have been given a chance.
I'll admit that Kirkland's defense is GOD AWFUL and he probably would have lost anyway, but the ref didnt give him a chance.
What if JMM werent given a chance after being down three times against Pacquiao???
Arturo Gatti has also been beaten to a pulp in the ring only to come back and win the fight by KO.
Kirkland was robbed of that opportunity and that is inexcusable. He was fighting a light punching foreigner. He should have been given the chance to continue instead of being forced back down to the canvas by Cortez's crotch.
Joe did not have to stop the fight but if James got hurt we'd all be saying something different like why didn't he stop it in the first his legs were already goneComment

When Marquez fought pacquiao people where saying the ref should've stoped the fight, now that he gets a chance to make it right people still bitch and say he stoped it to early. maybe if everybody shuts the fuck up and let's the refs do there job, maybe they can make the right call for a change like he did the first time.Last edited by Team Vitaminas; 04-11-2011, 12:47 PM.Comment

Yea that was a horrible stoppage. I mean he didn't even let him try to get up and just forced him back down like wtf? May not have won or maybe he could get lucky or change up so he can fight a better fight. Who knows what could have happened.Comment

I made this same agrument to ny123 after the fight. It really wasnt that much different then Pac-JMM. Im just not for all the quick stoppage BS. Its not like he was getting drilled and it was brutal. He deserved another shot. He still may have gotten dropped a second later but he deserved that oppurtunity, e****ally as an unbeaten prospect. Thats why my favorite ref by far is Steve Smoger.
I mean not only did he stop it but he fell on Kirkland. He didnt even give him a chance to even get up. Its like as soon as he went down, it was overComment
