Exactly, that's why he stopped it. You don't want to see a fighter get seriously hurt, Kirkland could not stop the right hand from landing. He was done.

He was totally hurt, I just wished I could have seen him get really KO'd it was surely only a few seconds away.

A proven world champion deserves greater benefit of doubt than an unproven prospect who has also been buckled in recent fights.

If his defense wasn't so poor and he hadn't gotten dropped so many times no one would have been in a position to do anything, give some credit to Ishida for being the better fighter.

Even though you are right and some refs give ex world champs or current world champs the benefit of the doubt, I don't think that was the case with Kirkland.

The one thing people aren't talking about is the type of knock downs they were. You can be knocked down and not be hurt, Kirkland was clearly hurt and hurt badly.

I can't believe people even for a second think this was a bad stoppage. I know everyone wants to see Kirkland get KO'd like Paul Williams did and that's a good highlight but that's not what the ref is supposed to do.

I honestly think that Cortez is one of the best refs in the biz and get's a real bad rap because he sticks so close to the rules.

Yeah he fell real hard that last KD too, the refs job is to protect these guys and no way was Kirkland defending intelligently, it was the right move to make and ppl are only protesting it because Kirkland is.

Well yeah, he should of, at least then he and anyone else wouldn't be able to hold on to this excuse.

As for Cortez, why wrestle him to the floor? The guy is so annoying, he too hands on. Why is he allowed to continue to ref, every other fight his decisions are questioned.
