And Tyson nearly killed him right from the very first moment of the fight, in his usual way. Didn't wait, didn't evaluate, didn't spar or manoeuvre, just went for him. What was it, a 90 second solid KO??Comment

He was 31, had 30 fights mostly against lt-heavies, was unbeaten, and had just got 2( close) decisions over an unbeaten 48-0 all time great. He wasn't even nearly on the downgrade, he was at his peak. A different guy from his brother Leon.

It's clear that he lost a lot when he moved up to heavyweight, he had a tough fight with an untrained Holmes and a lot of people I speak to think Holmes was robbed in the 2nd.
Age does not define the boxer, everyone ages differently.Comment

[QUOTE=tonyjones;10330789]All I gotta say is mike stepped in the ring with 4 ATG's (granted he lost to two of them) where as Floyd is still waiting for his first. Its tough because of his losses and short "prime" but I give the edge to Tyson for his pre-prison run.[/QUOTE
Are de la hoya and mosely not all time greats???Comment

seriously if u guys are gonna come on here and argue emotions and who u like better then just state that. because the arguments being made in this thread are downright ridiculous. i thought this was a boxing fansite?
i mean im a big tyson fan, hes very responsible for my love of boxing, but holmes and spinks were past it when he fought them. to say otherwise is an insult to both of these guys careers.Comment

It wasn't that his prime ended at 23. It probably could have ended at about 30, but by 23 he's put himself under sinsiter influences and got away from proper training, and pther proper behaviour. Not only was he too young to resist, he was being urged into excess.
It was THIS which cut his prime so short. His story is so well known, and has been written and movied about so many times, it seems silly for us to be doing it all over again.
Tyson was a "one-of-a-kind" phenomenon never before seen in our lifetimes, went up like a blazing rocket, and spluttered out like a wet squib.Comment

Spinks was a career Lt. heavyweight and was on the decline like many of Tyson's ****ty opponents.
Everybody with brains knew Tyson was all smoke and mirrors.Comment

Tyson was the complete fighter. JMM was a blown up featherweight who didnt do anything at welterweight. Hatton is a JWW. De La Hoya was prime at welterweight.Comment
