Is this guy serious? Most "boxing idols" have to be "manufactured", period.

Bottom line, you don't know what appeals to British people in a boxing star more than aware, perceptive British people do. In fact, you know a lot less. No xenophobe.

Kindly STFU, because you might as well be pointing your anus at the monitor and sharting on it for all your posts on the subject are worth.

Froch is vastly underrated in the skill department, imo. I think people overrate his chin and power, and underrate his skill. hes a clever bastard, even though not really physically gifted.

people act like speed=skill a lot of the time...and in reality its the exact opposite.

that's what I said... pedigree... khan had a successful amatuer career and he won the silver...

Who *does* get as big as Hatton got in the UK? Someone may yet get bigger here, but that kind of size of star is exceedingly rare.

Yes, Froch could have been as big as Khan or Haye are right now if he'd been backed fully from early in his Championship tilt. Who knows how many fights he has left at this level now? Which, again, speaks to the point re. the missed opportunity, the failure to recognize his potential early and tap into it.

Trust people who know the lie of the land; Froch could and should have been a much bigger deal here.

The British citizens here all seem to think Froch would have crossed over by now if a force like Sky had their finger on the pulse and picked him up at the start of his reign.

The 2 dissenting Americans, who 1. don't live here and 2. seem unlearned about what makes UK sports culture tick, think Froch would've been a flop.

Quick question. Would it be fair for us in turn to say you know nothing about American boxing because your from Europe. Froch has had so much TV time in the past years its rediculous for you to try and put it on exposure. Its him dummy. Thats not hate thats plain to see even from south east Asia. Stop acting like its some deep British secret to making a boxer popular. Thats the same arrogant attitude that got Froch where he is in the popularity contest. The biggest thing that we all missed is the popular opinion. Noone will be shocked if he loses. He doesnt have any invincible traits. Hell we can only give him so muuch credit but its not going to be good enough for you until we say he's p4p King apparently.

obviously... cause froch usually fights by relying on his chin and power... only until the AA fight has froch really used his skills. why wouldn't people think that he's just a tough man?

people act like speed=skill a lot of the time...and in reality its the exact opposite.
it takes a lot of coordination to use speed, hence skill. but speed is not the prerequisite of skill.

froch's problem was that he wasn't using his skills much until the AA fight...

Sky Sports is THE leading sports channel here in the UK.

Ricky Hatton, Amir Khan and David Haye have or had 100% backing from them the majority of thier careers.

As opposed to Froch who has had no backing from Sky Sports.

The 3 that were with Sky were immensely popular. The one that isn't, isn't popular.

                Coinsidence?

Exactly; there are plenty of 'fast' fighters who are talked of like virtuosos ('til they lose), when in reality they're one-dimensional compared to certain other slower fighters.

Comprehension time! I stressed *only partly reliant*; DeGale won Gold and did not start his pro career with near the same level of fanfare or sense of arrival as Khan. Khan didn't need charisma or personality per se, he just had a fresh-faced aura and mainstream appeal that was youth-based but that crossed generations, too.

We're not talking about the boxing per se, we're talking about the culture here.

Both the US and the UK have to manufacture boxing stars, but the US and UK markets are nuanced. You 2 guys clearly don't understand the nuances of the UK market; not all Americans are as obtuse, or pretend to know as much about the culture here, as Pullcounter and studentofthegam.

                      "So much TV time"? Really?

Do expound. Tell me about all this TV time and huge UK backing he's received. In fact, tell all the UK based posters here, because we haven't seen it.
