IDK TS but you are absolutely correct the old timers are vastly overrated and there are very few who are impressive at all if you watch the old vids.

Well you have dummies who think oh if Ray Robinson was fighting today well he would take on all comers because he has soooooooo much more heart then guys today.

Makes there resume more impressive to who?

        1. People who don't understand that you are looking at the end product compared to somebody who is still fighting
        2. Fighters always look greater hearing about them from your dad or a guy at the barbershop then when you paid $50 for a PPV or spent your Saturday night watching it when you could have been out partying.

This is always a foolish debate. There are great boxers in every era. Its only logical to look at and compare what fighters have accomplished and against who though when comparing era's. In that sense it's not even close, old timers over modern. More fighters, less weight classes, less titles equals superior times. Does it make every individual fighterb better? No.But if you melted the NBA down into half the teams with the best talent remaining would that not be a better era? Its common sense.

            ive covered this topic extensively.

            the answer,

older people (the ones who make pretentious ATG lists) rank older fighters greater than modern fighters because:

THEY WANT TO PRESERVE THEIR HISTORY.

That's the crux of it. Some other factors but that's the main reason.

Extensively huh, and your answer to it is that simple? Sorry, but there is a lot more to it then that.

                Thought

Records are being broken everyday in all sports. Not only do we have better technology but someone better always comes along. Always.

So argue against my previous post.I'll be happy to tear down ANY argument ANYBODY can come up against it. There are many more factors that need to be considered.Only the blind or close minded will refuse to accept them.

we have been through this dance before jab.....

athletic evolution. every single sport has been affected,

                    including boxing.

the only ones that are being blind or close minded when it comes to this topic are the oldschool fighter vanguards such as yourself who refuse to accept the greatness of modern/recent fighters in comparison to the golden era (more like the tainted era) greats of boxing.

Records get broken, yes. But that doesn't make era's better today because of it. More fighters, less weight classes, less titles and fighting more often equals a better era. Than you have to take into consideration (for all sports) the improvement of equipment, fields etc., etc.. When you objectively look at these things athletes are not better as a whole.
