I have to admit, I find it pretty funny that this is considered one of Hopkins' 20 title defences.

title defenes dont mean much anyway to me, but really?

that being said, you could easily make a case for Hopkins>Pacquiao, based on his 40+ record. its pretty astonishing.

Pacquiao... I dont feel there is a need to rationalize the choice.

There were better fights he could have taken so I dont care if it wasnt his fault that MW didnt have anybody
so margarito is a somebody because he has a name right ?

hopkins did his job and fought the best available competition in his division and he fought tito and oscar when they moved up.. they went to him not the other way around.

I don't blame Hopkins just like I don't blame the Klitschkos.

Point is Hopkins took on all challengers including the young hungry talented fighters of that time. Did Bernard have to fight Taylor? No, he could of retired with his 10 million dollar pay day he got from DLH and ride off into the sunset at 41 years old. However he didn't. He fought the young and hungry champion. Has Pacquiao fought Berto? Bradley? Khan? Alexander? No, he's fighting Shane Mosley. Who made his name off De La Hoya 10 years ago.

It's funny because people say Roy Jones Jr is one of the greatest fighters of all time. Who did he beat though? His biggest wins are James Toney and John Ruiz. Yet he's considered one of the greatest of all time because he's a star. He had that crowd pleasing style. Remember, this is the same guy Bernard has called out for a rematch FOR YEARS. Yet, he never took it. Yet somehow Roy is ranked higher than Bernard.

How is this possible? I don't get the logic.

I also don't see anything great in Roy Jones jr. Only thing I want to say in comparision of Hopkins and Pacquiao is the thing is Pacquiao's legacy was built by fighting best guys in 8 different weight divisions, on the other hand Hopkins's legacy was built by beating best challengers in weak division for 10 years. He was big MW, according to boxrec only one his challenger was taller than him. The thing you expect from champion is cleaning up division and moving up for better challenge. Hopkins, Calzaghe and Jones were reigning in 3 weight divisions and not fighting each other for a long time.

Pacquiao beating Mosley is irrelevant. Pacquiao has wins over Marquez, Barrerax2, Cotto, Sasakul, Ledwaba, Hatton, and Clottey. THOSE matter.
..the Morales win I suppose you could count but I think Pacquiaos wins over him are pretty overrated. David Diaz doesnt count for much in my book either.

I dont think hes heads and shoulders above Hopkins though.

well, Hopkins has some pretty impressive names on his record, especially considering a lot of them came when he was over 40.

and hopkins has been doubted so many times and still comes threw.. no catchweight bs. example he moved up and beat tarver soundly

Hopkins has 3 catchweight fights against Pacquiao's 2, and that was against Wright, Dela Hoya (158) and Pavlik (170), just saying...
