Cortez jumping in to save Khan GIF

i have seen several KO's where opponents straight up turned around and got KOed by a hook from behind. None of them were ruled NC.


People are just making **** up to defend Cortez's crooked reffing. just ridiculous bullsheeet.

I'm not talking about a hook that lands on the face from behind, I'm talking about a punch to the back of the head that causes a KO.

Khan was out on his feet, and unable to stand up straight, that's why he turns his back, he's confused. The ref can't stand back and let Maidana tee off on the back of Khan's head. Cortez was doing his job. Those rabbit punches and forearm shots landed during the break were debilitating enough to get Khan out of there before the bell sounded. Maidana just wasn't capable of doing it. Khan recovered to win round 11, and gave a good account of himself in the last minute of round 12.

He won the fight in a close but clear decision and rightly so. Cortez really wasn't that bad. A couple of hiccups, but that was it.

well that's irrelevant. Maidana's punch whiffed and he didn't throw it intentionally as Khan was turning when Maidana threw the punch.


The following hook in which Cortez interfered is perfectly legal.

Maidana honestly could've ended the fight right there had Cortez didn't interfere like a disgraceful douche.

it's hard to KD an opponent when the ref is constantly prying u off.

i never seen cortez as a bad ref tbh, it seems to me that he just follows the rules really well, while other refs may allow punching with one arm while the other is clinched, crtez doesn't for the simple fact that clinching, is illegal

i know there are plenty of people pissed off at his officiating, but i bet the only reason he's still used in high profile matches is and not gone back to obscurity is because he throws the rulebook at you

Did he not land several flush shots a full blooded rabbit punch and forearm as well after the lucky punch they did not get him out of there.

Cortez was doing Maidana a favour by breaking up the fighters when they were tied up. It's much easier to KO someone with both hands free rather than one. Maidana just couldn't pull it off even though he had every chance to.

Without Joe Cortez and no British ref. Steve Smoger or that black ref(forget his name, but he is also a really really good ref) can be the ref. The black ref I really like because he lets fighters fight out of the clinch. He is like fight out guys, and doesn't get in the way.
