If they were both going to come in under 147, that would be an entirely different story unless Margarito held the legitimate JMW title by beating the JMW champ at 154 and was ranked there. Obviously that's not the case and Marg is weighing in as a JMW, albeit at a JM catchweight limit.

So one of them weighs in at the limit. That is the purpose of the weight limit in boxing. To stop fighters going over it. Not to keep fighters from weighing in under it.

It's not an advantage for fighters to come in under but it can help them if they are fighting a much bigger guy by then using that size difference for a particular game plan, so whatever weight they come in under is utterly irrelevant as long as it's not over the limit.

1) tried to maintain 147 lbs months before the fight
2) came into the weight in at 145 lbs
3) put on 2 lbs after the weigh in.

if he'd have just done what boxer always do, which is cut weight and then rehydrate, he might've put up a better fight.

I hardly know Pullcounter actually. I'm not taking any sides here but he is technically right. I agree with you that the commission would never let such a ludicrous scenario play out, nor would any boxer even dare take on such a challenge but the current situation we have here isn't even close to the one you had. I don't really see a problem with Pac only weighing 144.6 for a fight that was agreed on at 150.

I don't really like that the JMW title is being fought for by two people who haven't accomplished anything at 154 being fought at 150 but old Bob Arum made it happen and both sides agreed to it. Nothin we can do about that. I just don't get why everyone is all hung up on the fact that Pac didn't weigh 150 today.
