there are no minimum weight limits, there are only maximum weight limits...

I hardly know Pullcounter actually. I'm not taking any sides here but he is technically right. I agree with you that the commission would never let such a ludicrous scenario play out, nor would any boxer even dare take on such a challenge but the current situation we have here isn't even close to the one you had. I don't really see a problem with Pac only weighing 144.6 for a fight that was agreed on at 150.C'mon man you know what I meant, I know that's your boy but don't defend his ignorance, they would NOT let that happen I just said that to tell this imbecile the obvious which is in CERTAIN cases it's allowed such as this one but it's not like the difference in weight can be limitless, if it was too extreme of a difference the commissions wont let it go down unless it's Heavyweight where there is LITERALLY no maximum weight, they are in charge of protecting the fighters, how are they protecting fighters if they letting them face men 2-3 times their size, not by frame or structure but by actual weight
this whole issue is a matter of opinion anyway which is what your friend fails to realize that he can say what he wants but it's his opinion not fact as he is trying to run around claiming
btw the bold statement is a serious oxymoron, no offense but I'm sure you're an intelligent person and you didn't realize it but if you know the definition of an oxymoron the bold line qualifies
I don't really like that the JMW title is being fought for by two people who haven't accomplished anything at 154 being fought at 150 but old Bob Arum made it happen and both sides agreed to it.
Nothin we can do about that. I just don't get why everyone is all hung up on the fact that Pac didn't weigh 150 today.

omfg!!!!! the ******ity and ignorance is strong in this one.but NEWS FLASH what YOU saying are the rules isn't officially written in the rule book, since when did you become a commissioner? there's no mention of it it's just an unaddressed thing because I'm SURE there is no mandate that there is or isn't a minimum weight it's just a disputed topic in certain bouts like this one and a bunch of others hence the reason why I backed tracked and caught myself because the way I spoke in the OTHER thread (the one this one is about) made it seem like there is a rule where you can't weight under a minimum and they broke it when it was really just my own personal opinion being blown out of proportion by me, you saying the complete opposite but it's just opinion all the same not fact as you're trying to pass it off as to try to hold yourself and your opinions over others as official when in reality it's just an opinion
what I'm saying isn't my personal opinion.
I have never seen a boxing match that was canceled because a boxer was under weight for some "imaginary" minimum weight limit.
I have only ever seen a boxing match cancelled because a boxer was over weight for a REAL maximum weight limit.
just ****en give it up.Comment

really? is this what it is about for you? really?you the one who showed ignorance in the first place, you KNOW that this thread is built off my conversation in the other thread and not only are you denying that but you tried to play dumb as if you don't know who I am on here meanwhile you indirectly making threads about conversations I had in other threadsComment

fuck you, i know catchweights have been around that doesnt mean i have to like it. and who the fuck do u think u are. ur automatically of student of the game and i'm not ??Comment
-
no it's not. the term itself comes from a different document. go learn history.
wrong.Let me put it simply. The jr. welterweight division ends at 140. What's 141 then in relation to the welterweight division. Is that hard to understand?Comment

I know man. When I first saw this thread I was like "really?" Does this need to be said? Some posters really don't know this though.
More than you'd think, huh?.

, QUOTE=Pullcounter;9567878]
don't you get it? pac fighting margarito at 150 lbs is a gift!!!! pac could've told marg to fight at 147 lbs or no fight. GIVING MARGARITO 3 LBS TO PLAY WITH IS A BOON!!!!! PAC IS WAY TOO ****EN NICE!!![/QUOTE]
If that's the case then he should be defending his welterweight title. The 150 is already a joke to begin with so to say that manny is being nice is a real stretch. He wanted the speed advantage and they knew that being underweight isn't an issue so he didn't have to deal with additional weight at a higher class. Just train as if it was another welterweight fightComment

Crillz: So, are you saying that someone who goes through his division and beats everyone in it and decides to fight someone up higher for a bigger fight but gives up a massive advantage of that fighter coming in many, many pounds bigger and tries to negate that by coming in at a weight that would serve his purposes best isn't allowed to fight?
As I mentioned earlier, Henry Armstrong came in at 134 to fight the great MW Ceferino Garcia. They fought for the 147 title and Garcia came in at 146. A 12 pound difference.
Why can Armstrong who was able to beat the champ at 147 not allowed to weigh in at his best weight as long as it doesn't go over the limit? He's giving an already huge advantage by just fighting these massive guys. Can't he come in at a weight in which his best assets will be there for him to try and negate the size?Comment

Wow, you really don't get it and your reading comprehension isn't all too high. Catchweights have been a part of boxing, but THERE'S A LOT OF THINGS THAT HAVE BEEN PART OF BOXING that aren't exactly right. Like I stated before, just because others have fought at catchweights for titles, doesn't make it valid.1) other fighters have won championships with catchweights
2) dlh/pac was not a catchweight. they agreed to fight at WW.
what they didn't agree to was:
- for dlh to weigh around 147 lbs months before the fight
- for dlh to weigh in at 145 lbs
- for dlh to put on only 2 lbs after the weigh in
that' was dlh's own dumb azz fault. I dunno how you can blame pac for that. and what's the big deal? it wasn't even for a title.
what utter bulllshiiit. if it ain't written down it ain't a rule.
nope. 140 lbs is the maximum weight limit for jr WW. the WW division doesn't start at 141 lbs.
you gotta go back and learn your history. "separation of church and state" comes from a different document, not the constitition.
no there isn't. you're extrapolation has no basis in fact.
this is a whole different argument, but I'll play.
1) catchweights for belts have always been a part of boxing
false. they are not placing limits on the entire weight division. they are placing limits on only their fight.
it is not against the rules. boxers can negotiate the contracted weight limits of their fights.
learn some boxing.
141 falls out of the junior welterweight division. Therefore, it's the start of the welterweight division. SIMPLE.
The 154 lb belt being contested tomorrow is a representation of that weight class. Essentially, Pac and company are putting a limit on that weight class by criminally making a 154 lb title at a limit of 150. LIKE YOU SAID THERE ARE LIMITS!
The statement, "separation of Church and State" is implied in the First *********, no matter if the exact quotation is in it or not. If you don't believe so, TAKE IT UP WITH UNITED STATES SUPREME COURT WHO SUPPORT THIS VIEW.
Well, we have to agree on something. De La Hoya was ****** for coming in at weight he hadn't made for close to decade. Still doesn't change the fact that Team Pac manipulated it in a way to mark an achievement because De La Hoya's name; much like how they are manipulating catchweights to gain an undeserved achievement of 8 titles in 8 different weight divisions. You even stated that the 154 lb title shouldn't be on the line.
LEARN SOME COMMON SENSE AS PAC WOULD SAY...AHAHAHHAHAHAHAAComment

LOL, SEPARATION OF CHURCH AND STATE IS AN IMPLIED RULE DUMMY.
