Neither of them were olympic stars.
Khan was popular before he even turned pro. His first few fights were shown on tv, so he is naturally going to be a big name.
No question he would be more popular if he was white just because the UK is mostly white.
Its just plain common sense.Comment

U think he is popular becuase he has a huge Asian following, so therefore if he was white he would have a huge white following, and obviously be way more popular. This really is garbage. Khan is very popular more so than Froch. Partly because he has a huge British Asian following and a following of giggly teenage girls. He has a niche following that would not normally be into boxing. With white boxers you will only tend to get the following of fight fans and they like fighters not media creations. If you had a white fighter promoted like Khan, protected like Khan I doubt he would be as popular as Khan.Financially being Asian has worked for him not against him.
The bst British boxers from the past tend to be black guys like Michael Watson, Benn and Eubank. They were very popular more so than their white contemparies.
Benn himself said if he was white he would have been much bigger.
The reason Benn, Eubank and Watson were popular was because they were the best. The other white fighters at that time werent nearly as good.
People here are living in a dream world where there is no racism in the UK. Ive known many people of all races who have a certain amount of racism in them, and many people, racist or not will root for a person they have more in common with, including race.Comment

If britain had a mixed race prime minister almost 200 years ago, if they abolished slavery before the americans, have fewer ******'s, fewer race gangs and better welfare for the worse off then how the hell are they more racist then america? what about how america having seperate platoons for black and white people in world war 2? or the fact that forced segregation was legal until the 1960's?
Also, lets not forget that casual racism in the media and segregation still very much exist in america today.
don't tell me america is a more tolerant society. expecially becuase they label black people born and raised in america as "african" americans as someone seemed to think was a good thing earlier in this thread.Comment

Khan is well liked and supported in UK. I don't think he would be any more liked if he was white. 600,000 people stayed up till 4:30 am to watch him fight Malignaggi and the repeat the next day was watched by 1.5 million people. By comparison only 300,000 people watched the FA cup highlights and football is arguably the UK's top sport.Comment

Two guys in your avatar are ******s and they never get ****ed on.People that make out the UK is some racist cauldron waiting to boil over have been taking too much notice of Oswald Mosley's streets of blood speech.
I'm from London and it's one of the mosst racial diverse places anywhere.
If Khan had the same skills and was blonde haired and blue eyed of course he would be more popular but there are a bunch of other things beyond his race that make him unpopular. His religion and the fact he embraces it, some say he has a ****y demeanour (I disagree), some feel he doesn't deserve to be where he is (I disagree), some don't think he is the real deal.
Khan is getting more popular and in time he could become the UK's premier fighter surpassing Hatton but at the mo there are a number of things holding him back his association with Roach and Pacquiao I have found is helping to break down some of the barriers though.
They are both BLACK
Khan is also a ****** and he always gets ****ed on.
Khan is south east asian.
NEITHER shove their beliefs down other people's throats, unlike hamed.
FACT: This problem is a racial one, not a religious one.Comment
