People that make out the UK is some racist cauldron waiting to boil over have been taking too much notice of Oswald Mosley's streets of blood speech.
I'm from London and it's one of the mosst racial diverse places anywhere.

If Khan had the same skills and was blonde haired and blue eyed of course he would be more popular but there are a bunch of other things beyond his race that make him unpopular. His religion and the fact he embraces it, some say he has a ****y demeanour (I disagree), some feel he doesn't deserve to be where he is (I disagree), some don't think he is the real deal.

Khan is getting more popular and in time he could become the UK's premier fighter surpassing Hatton but at the mo there are a number of things holding him back his association with Roach and Pacquiao I have found is helping to break down some of the barriers though.

So my question to the British is if Amir Khan was white would you like him more?

I hate to say it but the UK seems like its not at the same level as the US when it comes to race relations and tolerance, Heck just look at the US president.

American fans are pure boxing fans. They dont bring prejudice into the boxing arena. For instance Manny is oriental yet he gets great support in america. That would never ever happen in britain. Only place manny would get support in the UK is in china town or Chinese restaurant.

That being said I know that Britian is a very divided country, There is no such thing as "British", You are either English, Scottish, Irish, Welsh, or a derogatory term for anything else. Perhaps the problem the UK faces is that they have been unable to define a national identity. For instance in the US there are Italian-Americans, ***ish-Americans, Arab-Americans, African-Americans, Latino-Americans....But are all still Americans.

Thats right, we dont have groups like the west baptist church? lets get it straight, America is one of the most racist countries in the world, has a history of it, to compare it to race relations in Britain and hold it to a higher standard is just crazy.

Yes. There are a few British posters here that openly admitted that. A couple of them are quoted in my signature.

Khan is a household name in the UK because of his sensational lone wolf Olympic run. He is the most well known active boxer in the UK.

Thats like saying they don't like the Irish or the Germans or the French either.

If you change that to English they don't like the Scots or the Welsh either.

In fact its the English that are the real problem here.

Khan has more of a following that Froch & Mitchell put together. Froch cant even get picked up on itv or sky.

and Mitchell is unknown to the average joe in the street only because he was fighting Katsidis did warren pull out all the stops on advertising the fight..
