Study identified 10 categories, or skills, that go into athleticism, and then asked our eight panelists (a group made up of sports scientists from the United States Olympic Committee, of academicians who study the science of muscles and movement, of a star two-sport athlete, and of journalists who spend their professional lives watching athletes succeed and fail.) to assign a number from 1 to 10 to the demands each sport makes of each of those 10 skills. By totalling and averaging their responses, we arrived at a degree-of-difficulty number for each sport on a 1 to 100 scale. That number places the difficulty of performing each sport in context with the other sports we rated.

I agree with them putting boxing at #1. But martial arts put below wrestling and basketball, that's bull****!

Some of the category ratings are a bit dubious, but pretty good on the whole.

Another thing, they gave analytic aptitude for boxing too low a score compared to other sports. You have to be quick thinking and be able to adjust in various situations. Speed and agility were also scored too low. It's obvious that this panel of experts does not fully comprehend boxing. I'm glad they put it where it rightfully belongs at #1 though. Good link by the way.

Can't use the "4-rounder thing", at all.
That's a time limit issue. Most humans could run for twelve minutes, but most can't even box for four rounds.
No sir, Cyclers could die too anytime while at the road. One slip, one mistake and they fall to a 60-100+ foot ravine. Or slam theirselves on a road side tree at 60-70+ kms per hour.

I could only imagine the torture they put on their legs. Just ask Lance Armstrong. And 3rd, Marathon.
The question was about the toughest sport.

Boxing is the absolute toughest one-on-one sport, bar none.

Winning the Stanley Cup is the toughest team accomplishment in all of sports.

There has never been an easy Ironman competition.
triathalon isn't really A SPORT. its 3 SPORTS. maybe the contest may be harder than boxing, but if you singled out each sport---> they aren't harder than boxing
