Boxing is not physically difficult, boxing well is. Why else would we have great boxers like Reggie Strickland? Sure, everyone says the guy has skills, but he takes the easy route.

Any bum can throw on a pair of gloves and fight for 12 minutes, they might be blown up after 2 but hey, that's okay, they'll still cash their paycheck.

Now take a fake sport like golf, where you need to be ranked so high to get paid at all... makes you weep. Seriously though, something like Tennis you have to do very well in to make any money. It's not as physically gruelling, but you need to be somewhat more physically 'gifted' or 'determined'.

people are making good points but it depends on the actual word that is being used imo? most challenging or most damaging. i think those triathalon sports would have to be more challenging and draining but as far as damage and stress you take from a sport, has to go to boxing

There may be something to the cycling argument. To me, the hardest part of boxing is the running, so I heard Tour de France **** is much more intense than my road work.

Golf a fake sport? Id like to see you try it. Golf is completely mental and very few can play farely well. Props to some of the golfers that make those crazy drives and insane chips and putts. It isnt easy by any means. But not tough or grueling.

Interesting fact: A rider in the Tour De France will burn 7000 calories in that event alone.

            Anyway I would choose,

            1)Boxing
            2)Soccer

I could only imagine the torture they put on their legs. Just ask Lance Armstrong. And 3rd, Marathon.
I'm pretty sure boxing is wayyyy more physically demanding than cycling or marathon. Look at the training regimen of some of the top boxers--INSANE. Remember also that boxing is mostly an anaerobic sport which is very tough on the body. Going 12 x 3 minute rounds, training for 2-3 months for fight night. Also, taking punishment is very physically demanding. Kostya Tszyu got brain swelling recently, boxers piss out blood after a fight, etc. The punishment that cyclists and marathoners take is cramps--note: women also get cramps when they menstruate.

Gatti vs. ward, morales vs. barrera, hatton vs. tszyu and other tough fights. Point proven.

ESPN actually had a bunch of scientists do a study on what was the physicaly hardest sport to do. Boxing was at the top of the list. I'll take their word for it, the rest of you can argue amongst yourselves.

BOXING they already showed the toughest sports in ESPN and sportillustrated and physically BOXING is the toughest...They said fighters have to prepare months on end before a fight, reflexes and stamina and endurance must be catlike. They combine a marathon runners endurance and stamina. They also have to study a fighter on tape to adapt to his style styles make fights, it is a solo sport, and the number reason they said it is the toughest sport is because you are taking severe shots to the brain and body that have a lifelong affect on you, no pads like in football,You always have to be alert because any moment you can die in the ring you have to be in tip top shape to avoid punches and trust when that adrenaline is rushing.

                    Here's your answer:

Study identified 10 categories, or skills, that go into athleticism, and then asked our eight panelists (a group made up of sports scientists from the United States Olympic Committee, of academicians who study the science of muscles and movement, of a star two-sport athlete, and of journalists who spend their professional lives watching athletes succeed and fail.) to assign a number from 1 to 10 to the demands each sport makes of each of those 10 skills. By totalling and averaging their responses, we arrived at a degree-of-difficulty number for each sport on a 1 to 100 scale. That number places the difficulty of performing each sport in context with the other sports we rated.

Boxing is only at the top of the list if you are at your A game, Boxing is full of bums and tomato cans who call themselves a pro athlete. How many out of shape fighters alone are in the heavyweight division.
