If Golden Boy guaranteed Khan $1,000,000 without HBO's blessing, then I guess they will have to dig deeper into their own pockets.

Khan is already worth around £8m or $14m. He isn't going to fight for chump change. HBO and Golden Boy should know that.

And Breakbeat, the British people do support Khan. He has sold out almost every single one of his 23 fights, and has been on ppv 5 times already. Stop generalising, because some racist mugs like to boo him as he is making his ring entrances.

Khan is unproven and the jury is still out on his chin. He is a hype job and the promotional companies that been behind him has been all talk. I haven't seen anything special from him. If he really wanted to make a splash on american TV he should be willing to take less money and if he impresses he will make more down the line. HBO shouldn't even entertain this non-sense, if GBP promised him 1 million dollars let GBP give it to him some other way. This is not good business either way regardless

the fact he's been on PPV events does not indicate his level of popularity itself; the PPV is just part of the marketing machine behind Khan. If you really want to draw up the figures, they're dire; which shows the driving force beind Khan on PPV is moulding and marketing a product - not meeting a public demand.

It doesn't matter how much Khan is worth right now; a LOT of that money came from endorsements riding off his olympic success; he's not some superstar with a minimum-fee. Thus far his wealth has come from British money, so has no value AT ALL when deciding how much the american market "owes" him.

Be realistic here; the guy has a pretty poor resume and holds a paper title, he can't demand seven-figure pay days over in the US because of these "credentials".

This is all getting very silly. I did not realise Golden Boy guaranteed Khan a Million a fight. Since they have a 3 fight deal it is possible and likely they committed to 3 Million dollars. That is a lot of money they need to get back. No wonder they did the crooked Maidana deal to get him out of the picture. One solid punch and their investment is worth crap.It seems they have over-committed and have a real problem making fights that make sense and protect their investment. It is going to be very interesting to see how this all pans out.

I undestand he's real popular on the other side of the pond but he's a nobody over here.
i agree my friend, we as fans, who pay the bills need to take a stand against this ****.

that is why i am boycotting the pac fight. i love pac, but i think he was hiding something to skip a 40 mill payday, let alone the fight that the fans
wanted to see the most....i dont even like mayweather, i cant stand him really, but the point is 1 mill is too much for khan or paulie...

Your right, being on ppv is not indicative of public demand. But he wouldn't have been anywhere near ppv if his ITV viewing figures were not sky high. His fight vs Kristjansen drew 6 million viewers, and he has had higher and similar viewing figures for a large percentage of his other fights. He draws people in their millions. Calzaghe only started posting similar figures when he fought Lacy. The viewers may not have followed Khan to the ppv market, but who would when he is fighting the likes of ***an, Barrera, and Kotelnik?

It doesn't matter how much Khan is worth right now; a LOT of that money came from endorsements riding off his olympic success; he's not some superstar with a minimum-fee. Of course his wealth has value. It would be much easier to tempt an economically weak fighter to put his belt on the like in a foreign country, than one who has vast wealth, and could easily sell out arenas at home. However, even though I wouldn't blame Khan for doing a Calzaghe and fighting bums for the rest of his career, I hope he can negotiate a deal with HBO and show America what he has got.

Khan is 22 and in relative terms has a much better resume than either Calzaghe or Hatton had at similar stages in their careers. He has been largely protected, but that doesn't seem to stop people from loving the fighters mentioned above. I wonder why?

I believe if a guy in the red tries to rep positively or negatively, it comes in grey.

Good point . I had not thought of it that way but it really puts things in perspective.
