They promised him something they expected HBO to deliver. That's why i went on a rant there about HBO needing to man up. It makes no sense for HBO to have to pay big money for unestablished stars. There is no other competition, where else are these guys going to get paid millions?

Let Golden Boy and everyone else build their fighters up themselves.

Top Rank is the only company that does it with or without HBO.

I think we may be being fed another red herring. I wrote this thread before Marquez pulled out.

Talk about anything boxing related here. Where the boxing discussion is always Non Stop!

We were fed the line that Maidana was not well known enough to be Khan's first opponent in the States.Since when should a SELF IMPOSED agenda override a champions mandatory obligations? To get out of being labelled a ducker a more impressive opponent would have to be put forward. Enter Marquez who is also with Golden Boy then he pulls out only after Maidana has been tied up in a 3 fight avoidance deal. Title in tack and space to manoeuvre plus loads of free media attention and coverage. Now it is Malignaggi ,a credible opponent but there are so called money problems providing the perfect excuse to get a softer "cheaper" debut opponent. It is not Khan's or Golden Bouy's fault but a result of there not being enough money in the kitty. Don't be surprised if this fight falls out of bed and Khan ends up fighting a taylor made soft hitting fighter.
I am certain Golden Boy's plan for the 3 fight deal is to protect both Khan and Ortiz for the next 2 fights so they fight each other for a massive payday before Khan's contract runs out. In the mean time Maidana will be pitted with tough opponents so that he loses so he is never given the chance to embarrass Ortiz or Khan again. It is logical ,makes financial sense and fits the pattern so far.

This sort of corrupt dealing is extremely bad for boxing, and anyone who supports it is not a true boxing fan, IMO.

Money is a factor in all sports, but is not used as an excuse for the champions not to face risky opponents in any sport other than boxing.

Marquez is better P4P, but not at Jnr Welterweight. He looked physically out of his depth even at Lightweight, and much slower than he had looked at Jr Lightweight. At 142, he looked painfully slow, and he seemed to have lost most of his power. And styles make fights. Khan said "Marquez's style is made for me", whereas he knows - because Roach keeps telling him - that Maidana would be dangerous for him, because of his style and his power, and Khan's chin.
That is a huge problem in Boxing. But it is what it is. Everyone needs money. At the end of the day, the Maidana fight is too much risk for little money. Either way, in my eyes Amir beats Maidana any day of the week. Amir's chin is not that bad. When he got KO'd by Prescott, he was at 135 and was training pretty different. Now that he is with Roach and Ariza, his punch resistance has improved, although we haven't seen much of it. But we will see....

Those two sentences completely contradict each other. If one sentence is true then by definition, the other sentence is false.
