The standouts on Floyd's resume since December 2002.
I would say he caught quite a few of his opponents at the right time. Very few have gone on to do anything impressive since losing to Floyd, many have been knocked out and have multiple losses. Had they been prime opponents, this is unlikely to have happened unless he gave them the beatings of their lives.
Castillo: 12 years and 45 fights into a pro career. Had four losses on his record at the time of meeting Floyd, all by KO.
Gatti: 14 years and 45 fights into a pro career. Had 6 losses and been in brutal wars. RIP.
Mitchell: Old southpaw, done nothing at welterweight. Done nothing since Tszyu knocked him out a year earlier. Shopworn, 17 years / 60 fights into a pro career.
Judah: Was destroyed by Kostya Tszyu, lost to Cory Spinks, and most importantly, lost to Baldomir before fighting Floyd. 10 years into a pro career. Useless as a Welterweight.
Baldomir. 60 fights including 9 losses (now 12), super low KO ratio, and a career spanning 13 years at the time of fighting Mayweather.
Oscar: More 'Olden Boy' than 'Golden Boy'. 15 years and 42 fights into his career. SD against a faded Oscar is an unimpressive result.
Hatton: Completely out of his depth at elite level. Collazo had Hatton out on his feet in a fight where Ricky's cracks really started to appear. Not prime, but definitely on a downward slope and 43 fights and 10 years into his pro career.
Marquez: Brilliant fighter when he isn't pumped full of quayle eggs and piss. Totally out of his depth above 135. Aging veteran with 55 fights and four losses under his belt in a career 16 years deep.

Castillo was a champion in his prime when he fought Mayweather and you have nothing to support otherwise. You look silly saying this. And Casdtillo's losses were from cuts not KO's. Manny Pacquiao has been knocked out twice and has over 50 fights. Is he a soft opponent too because of that?
Gatti: 14 years / 45 fights into a pro career. Had 6 losses and been in brutal wars. RIP.
Gatti had won 5 fights in a row under Buddy McGirt. Including an impressive first round KO over unbeaten Dorrin for the belt. The same Leonard Dorin who was robbed(draw)against Paul Spadafora in a title fight. Gatti held a belt. But suddenly Gatti becomes "shot" for the Mayweather fight? How convenient.
Funny that you failed to mention that he knocked Spinks out in the rematch for the title. And the first fight was close and controversial. If you're not going to tell the whole story why tell it at all?
Baldomir. 60 fights including 9 losses (now 12), super low KO ratio, and a career spanning 13 years at the time of fighting Mayweather.
Baldimer was champion and if Mayweather didn't fight him he would have been accused of ducking Baldimer like Brian Kenny tried to imply.
Hatton beat Collazo in a competitive fight and knocked him down in the first round. You seem to think that was a one round fight since you only talk about the final minutes of the last round.Last edited by Calilloyd; 12-18-2009, 03:01 PM.Comment
