It used to be not anymore. The only way is for the #1 fighting the #2 guy. Or in some instance in very special occasions the #1 guy fighting the #3 guy.

It cuz it used to be that all you have to do is unify. Remember Roy was the Ring Champ cuz he unified the belts. But, Dariusz was the lineal champ. And, I think the #1 LHW at the time. Or at worse #2.

AAnd Cotto and marg where 1 and 2 at 147 when they fought so Marg must have been lineal.

that is not what I said at all. Recently in the WW division it has passed throught the WBC belt, but you do not need a belt to be considered welterweight champ.
              Check what I said again.

                      IBF Super Bantamweight World Champion
                      Ring/Lineal Featherweight World Champion

                      Ring/Lineal Light Welterweight World Champion
                      WBO Welterweight World Champion

He also has one more Ring/Lineal title, but can't remember if it's Flyweight or Super Bantamweight.
The Ring title and the linear title are not always in junction.
Not sure how I feel about a title from a magazine being considered as relevant as a sanctioning body. I have always considered it more figurative.
