When George Peterson surfed the internet on Monday night, he was stunned to learn that WBO/WBC middleweight champion Kelly Pavlik was scheduled to fight in Youngstown on December 19 against Miguel Espino. Pavlik had been scheduled to fight Paul Williams on October 3. Pavlik was plagued by a staph infection in his left hand; forcing him to withdraw from the fight. The event was pushed to December 5. The staph infection continued to affect Pavlik’s ability to train. He was unable to make a fist with the left hand, and withdrew from the fight for a second time. WBC junior middleweight champion Sergio Martinez has stepped in as Pavlik’s replacement for the December date with Williams. [details]

chicken pavlik can't fight quicker apponents.if you thought slow ass hopkins whoopped his ass imagine what a young high punch rate williams would've done. chicken pavlik wanted to fight paul in feb or march but all of a sudden he's fighting espino. he flat out ducked p williams in of the story.

Up to now, Paul Williams has not show nothing !!! Why this guy dont stay in a division for 18 months and unified the 4 belts and then go up in weight and fight pavlik or whoever is the champ at middle weight. Today the verb UNIFY is the most avoidable things to do. The same with Chaw Dawson, why fight for the WBC belt again, why dont go for the WBO, IBF, and WBA UNIFY !!! I am tired of all this boxers that claims to be the most feared and NEVER UNIFY, this champs of today, are all craps !!!

We all would love to see a unified champ in each division, but when you have fighters ducking other fighters, and you have so much corruption with the governing bodies, it will be rare to see this happen. You constantly have fighters who want to keep thier belts, so they fight thier mandatory, and get critisized for it. Hell Williams had the belt that cotto now owns. But no one would fight Williams at 147. He has also had a hard time finding fights at 154. But he chose to take on the MW champ, and he wont even fight him.

I don't think it is suspect. The whole problem with this staph infection and the postponements has simply been that there is no way to predict if and when a staph infection will heal. In some cases they come and go in weeks, in other cases people lose limbs or need skin grafts.

People should consider three things before trashing Pavlik:

1) Pavlik has no obligation and never has had an an obligation to fight PWill. PWill is not rated at Middleweight nor is it his preferred weight class. If he was truly afraid of Williams he could have easily done just like Mayweather, Mosley and Cotto have done and pretend that he doesen't even exist.

He had a contractual obligation. He had the obligation to the fans and promoters. What the **** are you talking about, he had no obligation? Okay, so he's not rated at MW.. Answer me this: would the overwhelming majority of people want to see Sturm-Pavlik or Willams-Pavlik? Fuck the rankings, when you put the MW contenders into the mix. Why would we rather see them than Williams?

2) The fact that the date is so close to the original doesn't necessarily mean that Pavlik believes he will be 100% on that date. He probably still has not hit a bag but is getting much better and knows he can beat this guy in December with a half ass training camp. Meanwhile going after Williams with a half assed trainging regimen would be a disaster.

It means that Pavlik sacrificed his reputation for a 10-day break. On a fight that has been a year in the making.

3) This may possibly satisfy his WBC Mandatory defense? In which case it would mean it was a fight he was going to have to fight anyway otherwise face being stripped. Espino is ranked #3 by The WBC and the fighters ranked ahead of him are inexperienced, have fights scheduled, and have yet to express a desire to step up to the title.

Even you don't buy these faulty, biased, corrupt, bull**** ranking crap. You're just grasping for an excuse.

Sadly, Paul Williams is the only guy probably that could beat Kelly Pavlik who is close to his size. We are gonna have this sack of **** as a champ for a long time probably because he keeps being inactive and fighting bums. Martinez is a way better opponent than this joker that Pavlik is fighting. How anybody can defend Pavlik right now is beyond me.

I am stunned by Pavlik's actions. They asked the Williams fight to be rescheduled for the middle of January. And now he's clear two weeks later? How is he so sure now? Wasn't he sure when he set the first Williams fight for October?

Likely Williams will not even get by Martinez who is a bigger, stonger and more skilled version of Carlos.
