He was already training for a MW fight, which normally means that a fighter will come into camp a little heavier (not necessarily out of shape) than usual. With day-before weigh-ins, the idea is to come down to your target fighting weight, then replenishing soon thereafter.
Anyway, glad to see the fight is being made and that Sergio/DiBella see the fight as a win-win situation.Comment

At least have some basis to what you're saying.
About 3 mins in, Williams talks about his weight. Very unlikely he's coming in at 175.Last edited by Levcon8686; 10-30-2009, 04:49 PM.Comment

BScene posters, You guys need to understand that Williams has been training for a MW fight. I'm sure he can make 154 easily but the problem is if he does that now he will have to be in camp to make 154 and train for Sergio...with only 1 month to go. I'm positive that if you give him 3 months or the usual 8 weeks for training camp, dude could probably make 147 imo.Comment

pwill/martinez...make it happen!! lolIn a follow-up to an earlier story posted on BoxingScene.com, the clash between Paul Williams and WBC junior middleweight champion Sergio Martinez will be contested at 160-pounds, and not at 154. There is a verbal agreement between both parties to fight on December 5 on HBO. The contracts have yet to be exchanged at the present but both sides are confident the deal will get done.
