I agree. Floyd certainly paid his dues and deserved it. However, that's exactly what Paul Williams is trying to do. He's taking on the best available opposition. What more do you want? Him to shut up? I wouldn't either if I just beat a man no one was willing to fight, had earned a title and didn't hear a SINGLE fellow champ in the division mention my name. You can only step through the door when someone opens it for you. Or Floyd wouldn't have had to wait NINE years after he won a Fighter of the Year award.
I like Paul Williams but what I don't get about him is...

I think he should focus on Martinez and Dzinziruk for now. He can become the undisputed champ @ 154 by the end of 2010. If he fights Pavlik at some point next year he can own 154 and 160. He'd be a 5 or 6 time World Champion. He could move up to 168 in 2011 and fight the winner of the Super Six. Maybe even a 175 fight with Chad Dawson. I mean he has a lot of options. He doesn't need Mayweather or Mosley to be honest. It would be nice, but he won't need them to become P4P.Comment

There was no one else for Pavlik to fight. If Pavlik had great options at 160 then Paul wouldn't have been considered by team Pavlik. And I don't understnad why you are against him buidling his resume and cleaning otu his division. He obviously will not get a big name until he does so. Why would Mosley, Mayweather or Cotto fight him when beating him does nothing to their careers. If he got a few several wins atleast beating paul would mean something.I agree, Williams is flawed. Bad. But I love his attitude. If we had more fighters like him, we'd get good fights every week. It's one thing to talk trash, it's another to actually be willing to back it up. I'm bemused at posts saying he should stop talking and fight guys like Cintron when this guy was about to step in the ring with Pavlik
And for the TS, you mentioned he was going to fight Pavlik because there was no one else to fight...exactly.Comment

What do you mean he just has to fight at his level? WTF??????????????he just has to fight at his level...hes not elite yet..he can fight martinez and the other guy i cant spell his name and that would be big because he would be the man at jmw then by that time he can get pavlik...the way to get a big name is to fight everybody thats what oscar did and what manny/cotto have been doing...the biggest thing is to be active and make your record as impressive as possible to the point where there is reward in beating him because right now fighting pwill is all risk and no reward
How do you prove your elite? I see...by beating non-elite fighters.
And finally, Williams is very active. His career has just been put on hold by one fighter. Really, you're grasping at straws here.Comment

right now yes not the winky from before hopkins but the winky now yes
the way he says that hes the most feared fighter and that every one is scared of him...like if the stars owe him a fight....like i said theres no reward in fighting pwill because he makes excuses and then others say he was overrated...he needs to continue to build himself up against people in his levelComment

Yes but doesn't the fact that Williams wanted to fight him and was ready to fight him show you that he backs up his words with action?
How do you clean out your division when the other top guys won't fight you?And I don't understnad why you are against him buidling his resume and cleaning otu his division. He obviously will not get a big name until he does so.Comment

he needs to fill into a higher weight division, nobody will fight somebody with a 82 inch reach at WW. Even though I think they would fair better than most think.
Williams is very thin at WW and a good game plan could give him problems since he doesn't always stay on the outside nor does he have tons of power.Comment

You said something that is the point I was trying to make; Fight the best available opposition. Outside of Pavlik, he is not gonna get other star to fight him. So why not Beat all of these other guys that are more than willing to face him. Doing so will lead to him being the man at 154 and there will be no excuses for people to avoid him. I just hate a few of his comments, such as Clotty is a loser so why face him, or Kirkland is ___ so why fight them. That is the attitude paul is displaying that my post is addressing.I agree. Or Floyd wouldn't have had to wait NINE years after he won a Fighter of the Year award.Comment

i mean hes not a star he needs to fight other guys in his position ie martinez maybe spinks and maybe sturm who has said hes interested in fighting pwill
you have to build yourself up you cant just say your elite and expect to be considered eliteComment
