  • When did the 9-belt era begin?

The four main sanctioning bodies are each capable of issuing their illiterately named 'interim' belts at any time plus the WBA 'regular' belt hasn't completely gone away. I make that 9 belts in each weight class.

'Interim' belts are very much a 21st century phenomenon, rarely seen pre-2000. Beside the obvious (money), why has this situation got so bad recently?

Don't forget the Ring belt and the IBO.

    WBA (Super)
    WBA (Regular)
    WBA (Interim)
    WBC
    WBC interim
    WBO
    WBO interim
    IBF
    IBF Interim
    The Ring
    IBO

Maybe Turki will invent Interim Ring belts. He was carrying a Ring belt to all the Benn vs Eubank events for whatever reason.

Now that (the bolded above) almost makes sense.

Eventually there will be a sanctioned belt for every fighter! Then they will not even need to fight each other! A prize for every kid! A belt for every fighter! Bigger gloves, less rounds, early stoppages, lets stop the fights after a good solid blow lands so the lads can go home with no bruises.

But I am crazy for saying the lineal is the only belt that means something... Ok.

Don't we have Franchise Champions anymore? That's a shame.

Coverdale, if that is indeed your real name, with the semi-edgelord thread. I like it.

The answer is the day they changed it from just being one belt. Also commonly known as the "good old days".

You know what great minds have said about the good old days? "I wish there a way to know you're in the good old days before you've actually left them." Andy Bernard.
